Seven Trailblazers Honored At Annual UNCF Luncheon

Last week, seven mem- bers of the community were honored as African American Trailblazers. The recognition took place at the Annual UNCF Tampa Black History Month Luncheon. It was held at the Tampa Marriott West- shore.
The Trailblazers were added to the AT&T Annual African American Calendar.
The seven honorees who are all members of the Tampa Bay Area are:
The Honorable Doretha Edgecomb, re- tired member of the Hills- borough County School District;
Ernest Hooper, former Tampa Bay Times Editor and Columnist; Anthony “Booger” McFarland, two-time Super Bowl cham- pion and ESPN Monday Night Football analyst;
Ms. Machelle Maner,
Vice President of Community Development at Wells Fargo; Justice James E. C. Perry, 85th Justice for the Florida Supreme Court,
2009-2016;
Among those at the Annual UNCF Luncheon were from left to right, Tampa Bay Leadership Council Chair Felicia Harvey; NASA Astronaut Captain Winston E. Scott; and AT&T External Affairs Re- gional Director and 2020 UNCF Tampa Black History Month Lunch- eon Chair Andrew Hall.
Mrs. Ann Porter, first African American Social Service Planner and Head Start Program Director for Hillsborough County; and
Dr. Walter Smith, 7th President of Florida A & M University.
Captain Winston E. Scott, NASA Astronaut, keynote speaker, was also recognized.
Tampa Mayor Jane Castor; Andrew Hall was the luncheon Chairman this year. Ms. Gwen Hewitt, AT&T External Affairs Re- gional Director; and Ed Narain, AT&T External Af- fairs Florida Director, were also in attendance.
East Tampa Community Revitalization Meeting Planned
On Tuesday, March 10 the East Tampa Community Advisory Council and East Tampa Community Revitalization Partnership will host a meeting to discuss the East Tampa Strategic Action Plan Update.
The meeting will take place at 10 a.m., at the Ragan Park Community Center, 1200 E. Lake Avenue.
A portion of the meeting will be set aside for a consultant to present his or her scope of services for consideration.
