Dog Bites Owners Who Attempted To Put Sweater On Him
Tampa Police responded to an East Tampa home last Fri- day in reference to a dog at- tack. One of the victims received serious injuries.
According to police, the in- cident began Friday when Ms. Brenda Guerrero, 52, 3405 Cord Street, went out- side around 2:30 p.m., to put a sweater on the family’s pit bull mix named Scarface.
The dog attacked Ms. Guerrero, and when her husband, Ismael Guer- rero, 46, attempted to rescue her, Scarface attacked him. A third family member, An- toine Harris, 22, observed the attacks and attempted to intervene, stabbing Scarface in the head and neck. Scar- face then began attacking
Harris. All three victims were able to escape into the house.
Scarface was left in the backyard. Both Animal Con- trol and the Tampa Police re- sponded. Animal Control shot the dog with a tranquil- izer after he got into the house, where two children were in the backroom.
At that point, the officers deployed a bean bag gun and taser to subdue Scarface. He was then captured with a “catch pole.”
Both Mr. and Mrs. Guer- rero were transported to a local hospital, where they were treated. Mrs. Guer- rero received serious, but not life-threatening injuries, police said.
