Educator Dies Unexpectedly; Funeral Arrangements Incomplete

Happy Birthday to a lov- ing wife, mother, and grand- mother.
Birdie Williams Un- derwood passed away unex- pectedly Wednesday, March 25, 2020. She was born in Tampa, Florida on December 9, 1948. She was the fourth child of Lillian Bryant Williams Brown and the late Howard Williams.
Birdie was a member of the Middleton High School Class of 1966. She was a proud graduate of the great Bethune-Cookman Univer- sity, where she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education. She received a Master’s of Educa- tion Degree from the Univer- sity of Tampa. Birdie retired as an educator from the School District of Hillsbor- ough County after serving 40 years of teaching at J. R. Brooker Elementary School in Brandon, Florida.

Because she loved chil- dren and made a difference in their lives, she returned to the field of education as a part- time Reading Tutor until her demise.
Birdie was a member of St. Peter Claver Catholic Church. She was an active member of Gamma Theta
Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incor- porated, where she received several awards and accolades, most notably, Soror of the Year. She served on the Hos- pitality Committee, CAP Committee, and Arts and Cul- ture for many years.
When she was not partici- pating in community service projects for her Sorority, you found her actively supporting Wildcat activities as a mem- ber of the Hillsborough Alumni Chapter of Bethune- Cookman University.
Birdie loved life and will truly be missed by many. She is survived by her mother; sister, niece, and other family members.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time. Aikens Funeral Home is han- dling arrangements.

On Thursday, another death was attributed to the Coronavirus. This marks the second death in Hillsborough County.
On March 26th, a 71-year- old female Hillsborough County resident diagnosed with COVID-19 passed away. This is the second person to die in the county while diagnosed with COVID-19.
The Hillsborough County Health Department said the first death linked to the Coro- navirus took place on
Wednesday, March 25th. The 69-year-old victim passed away at home.
Positive cases and fatali- ties are reported to the De- partment of Health at 11 a.m., and 6 p.m.
