It’s Tournament Time For Belmont Heights Little League
As the 2016 regular season play of Little League baseball comes to an end, the excitement of tourna- ment play begins, and Belmont Heights Little League (BHLL) is no exception.
Progress Village Little League was the host of the Tournament of Champions for District 13.
Registering to compete in all divisions, BHLL went into this tournament with more players than any other league competing.
The games were delayed by increment weather, but the game to witness was the championship
game between Cool Gator’s Yankees, coached by Richard “Pluto” Battle, against fellow BHLL coach and longtime friend, Torrance “Knot” Lee, and his Wilson’s Funeral Home Brewers. In the end the Yankees pulled off a victory, winning with a score of 8-6, clinching the minor league di- vision win.
Up next was the Gudes Funeral Home Royals, coached by Elder A. House, defending the pride of BHLL, against Progress Village. In the end, the Royals were also victorious, winning with the final
score of 12-5, clinching the major league division championship for BHLL.
The combined teams of 2T’s BBQ National, coached by A. Green, and Wm. Property, coached by LC Johnson, advanced to sectional play, win- ning unopposed.
“There is so much more to this than playing games and buying uniforms. It’s a lot of hard work,” says Junior League Director, Veda Virgil.
“At the end of the day, you do it for Belmont Heights, and you do it for the kids.
