On Friday, a federal judge sentenced Ms. Howronda Overstreet, 39, to serve 57 months (4 years, 9 months) in federal prison.
Officials learned of the tax scam after officers responded to her home in reference to domestic violence. When of- ficers arrived, Ms. Over- street reportedly told the investigating officers that her boyfriend was a convicted felon and that there was a gun in the home. He told po- lice that she was filing false federal income tax returns. Both provided the officers with consent to search the home in writing.
Officials said when Ms. Overstreet was initially asked for identification, she mistakenly gave the deputy a Green Dot prepaid card. She took it back after realizing what she had done before he could read the name on the card.
The deputy stated in re- ports that while walking her to the master bedroom, he observed large flat screen TVs, in several rooms and

the master bedroom, there was a large open brown box containing numerous folders and paperwork next to the door that contained the per- sonal identifying information of several people who did not live at that address.
Officials said neither Ms. Overstreet nor her signifi- cant other was employed at the time.
