Pres. Trump Presses Congress To Get A Win Within First 100-Days In Office Or Face Government Shutdown
Former President Obama
To Speak For First Time
Since Leaving Office
Congress returns from a two-week break facing a deadline to keep the govern- ment operating while Presi- dent Donald Trump presses harder for some leg- islative accomplishments as his first 100 days in office wind to a close.
The week is shaping up to be a collision of needs be- tween the two, and time is quickly running out on both.
Passing funding to avoid a government shutdown ap- peared to be an easy task just weeks ago, but new stum- bling blocks have arisen in re- cent days as Trump has added new demands on items like the border wall and in-

creased military spending. Government funding ends Friday, allowing only three full days of legislative activity after the House returns late Tuesday night, and the last-
minute controversial re- quests from the administra- tion are threatening to make a deal harder to reach.
At the same time, Trump is pushing Congress to move quickly on another attempt to pass a repeal bill of the Af- fordable Care Act, even though House Republicans aren't unified on a path for- ward.
To add more to Congress' plate, Pres. Trump told The Associated Press last week that he intends to unveil his plan to overhaul the tax code, another priority for Republi- cans but a gesture that caught Republican congressional leaders by surprise.
Former President Barack Obama will speak Monday (today) in Chicago to young community leaders and or- ganizers at the University of Chicago, where his presiden- tial library is planned.
Obama’s first public en- gagement comes as Presi- dent Donald Trump nears his 100-day mark in office next week.
The news release announc- ing the event says Obama’s post-presidential goal is “to encourage and support the next generation of leaders driven by strengthening com- munities around the country and the world.”

Named Acting U. S. Surgeon General After Obama Appointee Asked To Resign
Poll: Public Gives Trump
Lowest Marks Of Any
Like other holdovers from the Obama administration, reps of Team Trump asked U. S. Surgeon General Vivek H. Murthy to resign on Fri- day.
Dr. Murthy was replaced by his deputy, Rear Adm. Sylvia Trent-Adams, one of the first nurses to serve as surgeon general.
According to the New York Times, Trent-Adams will
be in an acting role for now. The administration moved quickly and updated the U.S. Surgeon General page by Fri- day evening.
The New York Daily News reports that Dr. Murthy, an Obama appointee, was pushed out because of his stance on gun control. He has repeatedly gone on record saying gun violence is a pub- lic health threat.

Americans are dissatisfied with President Donald Trump as he nears his 100th day in office, with views of his effectiveness and ability to shake up Washington slip- ping, a new Wall Street Jour- nal/NBC News poll finds.
More than half of Ameri- cans—some 54%—disapprove of the job Mr. Trump is doing as president, compared with 40% who approve, a 14- point gap. That is a weaker showing than in the Jour- nal/NBC News poll in late February.
Trump's 100th day in of- fice takes place on April 29.
By contrast, in the exact same question from April 2009 NBC/WSJ poll, 54 per- cent of Americans said that former President Barack Obama's first 100 days had gotten off to either a good or great start, while 25 percent
said they were fair, and 21 percent called them poor.
Trump's overall job-ap- proval rating stands at 40 percent — down four points from February. It's the lowest job-approval rating for a new president at this 100-day stage in the history of the NBC/WSJ poll.
At this same point in time of their presidencies, Obama's overall rating stood at 61 per- cent in the poll, George W. Bush's was at 56 percent and Bill Clinton's was at 52 per- cent.
Bill O’Reilly Receiving $25M Payout After Ousted From Fox News
The day after Bill O’Reilly was ousted from Fox News, aftershocks rippled through the network, with news of Mr. O’Reilly’s exit package spreading through the news- room and some employees questioning how committed executives were to rooting out sexual harassment.
O’Reilly is receiving a pay- out of as much as $25 mil- lion, equivalent to one year of his salary, two people famil- iar with the matter said Thursday. That development was met with “outrage” and “disgust” among some em- ployees and among critics outside the company, who

said it sent a message that a powerful newsroom figure could profit even after multi- ple sexual harassment allega- tions had been made against him.
Less than a week after Fox
News announced it would be parting ways with O'Reilly, the former host plans to re- turn with a podcast starting Monday.
Front and center on O'Reilly's website Saturday was a banner promoting the podcast, set for 7 p.m. ET: "Monday. The no spin news returns." During O'Reilly's highly successful run as host of "The O'Reilly Factor," he typically would begin each episode telling viewers: "You are about to enter the No Spin Zone.”
O'Reilly was ousted from Fox News on last Wednes- day.
