Aretha Franklin's Family
Reacts To Jennifer Hudson's
Oscars Snub For 'Respect'
Aretha Franklin's family says the late Queen of Soul isn't getting the R-E-S-P-E-C- T she deserves. Amid Oscar nominations for the 2022 award show being revealed and Franklin's biopic Re- spect being omitted from all categories, her family wants answers. The highly-antici- pated film starred Jennifer Hudson, whom Franklin handpicked to play her, in the lead role.
The singer's niece, Sabrina Owens, tells TMZ she's disap- pointed about the Oscar snub because Owens feels Hud- son shined as Franklin and deserves the recognition of the award. Hudson already has an Oscar in the "Best Support- ing Actress" category for her role as Effie White in the 2006 musical film Dream- girls. Owens also told the media outlet that Respect was Franklin's prized possession in her final years. She was heavily involved in getting the film into production. The biopic had been years in the making.
Per Owens, Franklin took great pride in her work, espe- cially the film to truly show- case her life story. Owens said
Denzel Washington just made history... again!
The 67-year-old just scored his 10th Oscar nomi- nation Tuesday, extending his reign as the most-nomi- nated Black actor in Academy Awards history.

The actor (who also won a
Tony Award in 2010) was first nominated for an Oscar in 1988, when he was up for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Cry Freedom.
He went on to earn nine more nods, winning twice: for Best Supporting Actor (1990, Glory) and for Best Actor (2002, Training Day). He was most recently nomi- nated in 2018 for his work in Roman J. Israel, Esq.
JENNIFER HUDSON
Franklin would have wanted Hudson recognized by the academy.
The "Chain of Fools" singer's cousin, Brenda Franklin Corbit, shares similar sentiments. Corbit told TMZ that she's heartbro- ken about Hudson not being nominated and feels it's a huge mistake. The family as a whole doesn't believe anyone besides Hudson could have pulled off the role. Corbit says Franklin would have been outraged at the snub. Franklin reportedly had her eye set on the nomination when she was alive and creat- ing the project.

never gave up on this case,” Acting United States Attor- ney Seth DuCharme said in a news release.
Washington and Jordan are accused of killing the hip- hop pioneer over a drug deal
that fell through, according to the Department of Jus- tice’s news release. Jam Master Jay allegedly bought 10 kilograms of co- caine to be sold in Maryland by Washington and Jor- dan, Jr. and other drug dealers. When Jam Master Jay told Jordan, Jr. that Washington wouldn’t be a part of the deal, they set out to kill him, according to legal documents. The two men are accused of then breaking into his recording studio in the Hollis section of Queens, New York on Oct. 30, 2002. Jordan, Jr. is accused of shooting Jam Master Jay in the head and shooting someone else in the studio named Uriel “Tony” Rin- con in the leg.
