MRS. EDITH YOUNG FULKS
A Celebration of Life Service for Mrs. Edith Young Fulks, who received her heavenly wings on January 13, 2022, in Murphy, NC, will be held on Thursday, February 24, 2022, at 6 p. m. at First Baptist Church Of College Hill, 3838 N. 29th St., Tampa, FL 33610.
Edith Young Fulks was born on February 2, 1935, in By- romville, GA, but because of a midwife’s error, her birthday is recorded as February 24, 1935. She liked to joke that she had 2 birthdays and expected 2 gifts. She married James Fulks, Sr. and together they had six chil- dren.
At the age of 25, she moved from Byromville to Tampa, Florida where she single-hand- edly raised six successful chil- dren by working hard at such places as Luggage Service and retiring from St. Joseph’s Hospi- tal after over 30 years in the Cen- tral Supply Department.
She spent many years as a member of St. John Cathedral, under Elder Eddie Newkirk, be- fore moving her membership to First Baptist Church of College Hill, under the guidance of Pas- tor Evan Burrows.
In 2019, after living in Tampa for 59 years, she relocated with her youngest daughter to the mountains of Murphy, North Carolina, where she spent her final days watching beautiful sunsets and deer playing outside her bedroom window.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Fulks, Sr.; parents, Bertha and Will Young, Sr.; sisters, Lena Archie, Laura Williams and Shirley Housley Foster; brother, Arthur Young; son, Marvin “Catman” Fulks; grandson, Andre Fulks and great-grandson, Malik Torres. On January 27, 2022, she was joined in paradise by her sister, Catherine Turner.
She will be greatly missed by her 3 sons: James (Patricia) Fulks, Glenn (Teresa) Fulks, Hampton, VA, Kelvin (Laverne) Fulks; 2 daughters: Edith Louise Mosley and Beleria Floyd, Mur- phy, NC; 16 grandchildren: Bele- ria Fulks, Marvin “Pee Wee” Fulks, Jr., Kimbya Fulks, Derrick Bland, Marvin LaRon Fulks, Tanya Fulks, Tamiko (Ronald) Henry, Charmyne James, Kechia Fulks, Orlando; Glynn Fulks, Ma- rietta, GA; Nickalaus Fulks, Hampton, VA; Kelvin Stroud, Sherod (Tiffany) Fulks, Antonio King, Sheria Fulks and Ethan Floyd, Oakland, CA; 3 brothers: William (Annette) Young, Ed- ward Young and Albert (Ara- bella) Young; 2 sisters: Bertha (Walter) Gary and Ophelia (Alphonso) Ball; like a sister, cousin Annie Cason; 1 daughter- in-law, Faye Fulks; 1 sister-in- law, Evelyn (Robert) Gamble, Markham, IL; 43 great- grand- children and 28 great, great- grandchildren; many special nieces, nephews and cousins; goddaughter, Alicia “Ray Ray” Evans; special friend, Lonica Bent, Gail Gaynor, Inez Bush, Steve Dixon (wonderful neigh- bor), other friends too numerous to mention, but too important not to forget.
