This week’s Spotlight feature, Cassandra, hopes to turn heads wherever she goes, and is confident her energy and desire will drive her to success. Akilah’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. Byron (Tanzia) Dixon; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas (Bar- bara) Dixon; Mr. Henry Oney, Atlanta, GA; and Mrs. Betty Oney, North Carolina.
Akilah will be attending Florida Polytechnic University this fall, studying to become a Computer Engineer.

Community Activist Plans Annual Summer Camp

Last year, because of the COVID-19 Pandemic many events were cancelled. How- ever, this year, some events are relaunching in the community.
One of the events emerging this summer is the Rays Of Hope Outreach Community Youth Camp. The camp is de- signed for youngsters between the ages of 8 and 18.
The Rays of Hope Summer Camp will begin on June 7th and conclude on July 29th. Youngsters between the ages of 8 and 18 can attend on Mon- day and Thursday nights from 7 p.m., until 8:30 p.m. The camp is located at 211 S. 22nd Street, Tampa, FL.
Activist Horace Drew said, “We will have different

speakers every night and activ- ities. On Saturdays, we will have mentors as well. We will host a college tour as well this summer.”

Students Urged To Apply For NAACP Scholarships
The (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) is encouraging high school students to submit appli- cations for scholarships. More than $800,000 in scholarship funds are available across 10 grant programs for students who apply by June 18, 2021.
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
Be a member of the NAACP. If you are not a member of the NAACP, join; Be African Amer- ican or a person of color; Be cur- rently enrolled full-time or accepted to an accredited col- lege or university in the U. S.; Be a graduating high school senior, undergraduate student, or grad- uate student; Possess a grade point average of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 system; and Demonstrate interest in a relevant field of study where applicable.

Remembering Robert W. ‘Bob’ Saunders
The Tampa-Hillsborough County Public Library will be holding a live, online event in honor of the birthday centen- nial of Robert W. Saunders, Sr. During the event, special speakers will be sharing stories to honor the life and legacy of Mr. Saunders.
The event will be held on Monday, June 7 at 4 p. m. It is free and open to the public, however participants must reg- ister to attend. People inter- ested in attending can find the registration link on the li- brary’s online events calendar at HCPLC.org/Events.
