Paramedic Charged With Theft Of COVID-19 Vaccines
A Polk County fireman was arrested earlier this week. He was charged with the theft of COVID-19 vac- cines.
According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Joshua Colon, a 17-year- empl oyee with the Polk County Fire Rescue, inten- tionally took three doses of the Moderna vaccine. He then forged the screening and con- sent forms for the vaccines. The vaccines were earmarked for first responders.
Colon, 31, told police he was told to take the vaccine by his supervisor. Colon re- signed on January 22nd.
In his statement to police, Colon said after he took the vaccines, he placed them in the refrigerator and his su- pervisor told him to go on break. When he returned, he reportedly discovered that the package had been tampered with and three doses were missing.
Colon said he did not ap- proach his supervisor, but forged documentation stating that 3 of the vials had wasted.
At the end of the day when the paperwork was submit- ted, Colon said he had cre- ated one fictitious name for the paperwork and used the names of two firefighters to

cover the missing vials. When the two firefighters were contacted, both said they had not received the vac-
cinations.
When confronted on
Monday, Colon admitted that the consent and screen- ing forms had not been com- pleted on the day of the incident.
Colon was arrested and charged with 4 counts each of forgery, uttering a forged in- strument, and falsifying med- ical records. He was also charged with official miscon- duct, criminal use of personal ID; and 2 counts of creating fictional personal ID.
Sheriff Grady Judd
said the supervisor in ques- tion was out of state and slated to return in the near fu- ture.
