BY MONIQUE STAMPS Sentinel Staff Writer
On Saturday, March 27, 2021, at 10:00am, the Tampa (FL) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated will again part- ner with Thomas Financial to hold a Financial Planning Seminar. This seminar is ti- tled, Foundational Planning.
The Tampa Chapter is fo- cusing on raising knowledge about financial institutions and practices in the African American community.
Mary Dance, co-chair of the National Trends Facet of The Links chapter, states, “It is important for all people to understand the fundamen- tals of finance so they can grow their savings. With this information, the financial de- cisions of working people can add up to thousands of dollars in additional savings. These types of investments are essential for generational wealth.”
The presentation will cover financial planning basics starting with setting up an emergency fund and estab- lishing credit. This session will then expand on planning for retirement and focuses on the importance of establish- ing a strong financial base.”
Overall, the Foundation Fi- nancial Planning presenta- tion highlights that just like
building a house, you cannot build wealth without a solid foundation.
Additional talking points will include emergency funds, credit scores, health savings accounts, income protection, disability, and life insurance.
Finally, the presentation concludes with introducing different types of invest- ments, as well as education on key investing concepts such as diversification, in- vestment allocations, and pe- riodic rebalancing.

Dr. Vondalyn Wright
has years of vaccination ex- perience. She has a staff at her pharmacy waiting for the vaccine for distribution.
But she has a question, “We’ve seen the distributions go to Publix, then Walmart Pharmacy, but when will we receive dosages?”
There are a few African American-owned pharma- cies in underserved commu- nities, who have not been contacted about receiving any doses. But, they have a team of trained professionals ready to administer the COVID-19 vaccine. The problem is, they’re not get- ting the doses.
As an independent phar- macy, she has built relation- ships with senior communities and these resi- dents want to know when the COVID vaccine will come to their facilities to vaccinate the residents as they did with the flu vaccine.
Health Matters Phar- macy, 1702 N. 50th St. (33619), has a team of 10 professionals that are ready to vaccinate the most vulner- able in the community.
Also, there are 20 trained professionals, including nurse practitioners and pharmacists, who are trained and ready to vaccinate those in the community.
Dr. Wright’s husband (Marlon) owns a business on 40th St. that is being uti- lized as a nightclub. At one time the site was described as a nuisance. He’s trying to change that image. State Rep. Dianne Hart held a drive-by PPE event at the site, which also served as a testing site.
Dr. Wright is hopeful that those who are distribut- ing the vaccine will want a place they can use for testing and vaccinating, and will consider the property on 40th St., so that residents of the East Tampa community will be served.
