2nd Annual Herbert Holley Scholarship To Be Awarded
BY IRIS B. HOLTON Sentinel City Editor
Nearly three years ago, a Tampa husband and father died as a result of a traffic ac- cident. Last year, in his memory, his family estab- lished a scholarship in his name.
Now, the family of Mr. Herbert B. Holley is plan- ning to award a scholarship to a deserving student for the second consecutive year.
The family knew that Mr. Holley loved music and felt that is the best way to honor his memory. This will be the “Second Annual Herbert B. Holley Scholarship For The Arts.”
Students interested in ap- plying for the scholarship must do so by June 1, 2019. Students interested in apply- ing for the scholarship must submit an essay of 500 words or less to answer the essay question, “What Does
Music Mean To Me?” Students must also sub-
mit their first and last name, telephone number, and email address. The winner will be awarded the $1,000 scholarship after the dead- line for submissions.
A Tampa native, Mr. Holley attended the public schools of Hillsborough County. He graduated from Hillsborough High School in 1977. He entered the work- force after graduation and worked for Hillsborough County as an Engineer Tech- nician for 25 years.
He was a longtime mem- ber of New Mount Zion M. B. Church since childhood. However, he later united with Christ Institutional Church.
