School District Launches Summer Food Program
Even though school will be out for the summer, stu- dents will have several op- portunities to receive nutritionally balanced meals as Hillsborough County Pub- lic Schools hosts the annual “Summer Food Service Pro- gram for Children.”
Hillsborough County Public Schools will have three different programs for stu- dents:
The Extended School Year program offers students breakfast and lunch at no cost at schools that provide summer school programs. All children, 18 years old and younger, can come to an open school, Monday through Thursday, from June 3 through August 2, regard- less of whether the child is enrolled in summer school.
For the eighth year now, the district will also bring food into the migrant com- munities through our Movin’ Meals “food buses.”
Five retired and reno- vated district school buses will deliver meals into neigh- borhoods, offering breakfast and lunch. Students can eat on the air-conditioned buses.
The district is also renting six refrigerated trucks to de- liver box meals to community sites with summer programs. The sites include YMCA pro- grams, HCC summer camps for kids, and all of the parks and recreation sites spon- sored by the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners.
Hillsborough County Public Schools is committed to providing nutritionally balanced meals to children during the summer vacation when school breakfast and lunch are not available.
