Floyd Mayweather-Conor McGregor Megafight Finalized For Aug. 26
Cam Newton Not Throwing Yet Is Not A Setback
CAM NEWTON
Cam Newton is not set to
begin throwing this week, which is contrary to what Car- olina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera had said. How- ever, that does not mean the quarterback has had a setback in his rehab from surgery to re- pair a partially torn rotator cuff.
When Newton originally underwent shoulder surgery, the Panthers’ plan was to have him begin throwing after 12 weeks, which was June 22. That remains the timetable, so Newton not throwing this week is not a bad sign.
LeBron James Told Kyrie Irving
What began as talk for a fight many perceived as impos- sible between a boxing legend and the biggest star in mixed martial arts is now a reality.
Former pound-for-pound king and five-division world champion Floyd May- weather Jr. made the official announcement on social media on Wednesday, confirming that he will exit a 23-month re- tirement at age 40 to face Conor McGregor, the UFC superstar, in a boxing match on Aug. 26 in Las Vegas.
UFC president Dana White, appearing on Sports- Center, said the fight would be at the boxing junior mid- dleweight weight limit of 154 pounds, the fighters would use 10-ounce gloves and the card would take place at T-Mobile Arena.
After Losing To The Warriors
Obama After Finals Win
Former President Barack Obama sent a congratulatory text to Golden State Warriors forward Kevin Durant fol- lowing the team's champi- onship win over the Cleveland Cavaliers.
But Obama did not com- pliment the Finals MVP on scoring 30-plus points each game. Instead, he focused on the other end of the floor.
"Congrats, your defense was really good,' which was random," Durant told The Ringer's Bill Simmons when asked what Obama said.
Obama also told Durant to "enjoy it, have some fun" following his first title win. Durant told Simmons the

most surprising text he got after the victory was from his high-school girlfriend.
Durant averaged 35.2 points, 8.2 rebounds and 5.4 assists per game, earning all 11 votes for Finals MVP.
The Warriors finished the postseason 16-1, including a record 15 straight wins to start out.
CONNOR MCGREGOR AND FLOYD MAYWEATHER
The fight will be broadcast on Showtime PPV.
The announcement brings to an end rampant speculation that began two years ago, when McGregor threw out the prospect of the fantasy match during a July 2015 appearance on Conan O'Brien's talk show, telling the host, "I would box him if the opportunity arose."
LeBron James immedi- ately showed leadership while making his way to the locker room after the Cavaliers had just lost to the Warriors in Game 5.
James grabbed Kyrie Irv- ing, gave him a hug, and told him, “We’ll be back.”
The Cavaliers are clearly the second-best team in the NBA at worst. They’ve just run into a Warriors team that is one of the best to ever grace an NBA floor.
James has played in seven consecutive NBA Finals, so while it might seem easy for him to say, that’s a great way to uplift his team in the immedi- ate aftermath.
LeBron James Gives Kevin Durant Big Hug After Losing Finals
LeBron James has had a few moments of questionable sportsmanship after losses during his career, but his be-

havior after Game 5 on Mon- day certainly would not count. Almost immediately after losing Game 5 of the NBA Fi- nals on Monday night, which gave the series to Golden State, LeBron James ap- proached Kevin Durant to give his opponent a hug and
some congratulations. James and Durant are
friendly (they even recorded a rap song together), and James knows how tough it is to win that first championship. He knows Durant earned it with superb play and wanted to recognize the former MVP’s efforts.

Jeremy Maclin Signs Two Year Deal With Ravens
The Baltimore Ravens have landed a potential No. 1 wide receiver.
The team announced on Monday that they have agreed to a two-year deal with Je- remy Maclin.
Maclin, who was surpris- ingly released by the Kansas City Chiefs, had reportedly narrowed his decision down to the Ravens and Buffalo Bills. As we saw with Steve Smith and Derrick Mason before him, veteran wide receivers have carved out a significant role with Baltimore in the past. That likely factored into

Maclin’s decision.
The Ravens had a major
need at wideout with Smith having retired, and Schefter notes that they could still be in on Eric Decker even after signing Maclin.
