Tampa Housing Authority Employee Nominated For ‘CFO Of The Year’ Award

Recently, an employee of the Tampa Housing Authority was nominated for a coveted award. She was named for the award by members of the Tampa Bay Business Journal.
The nomination took place last week at a luncheon at TPepin’s Hospitality Center. Several members of the Tampa Housing Authority were in at- tendance at the time Mrs. Susi Begazo-McGourty was chosen.
Mrs. Begazo-McGourty
is the Senior Vice
President/Chief Financial Of- ficer with the Tampa Housing Authority. She also oversees all aspects of the Financial Man- agement for the Authority which includes the Agency’s mixed financing develop- ments, not for profit entities and other business units.
In her current capacity, Mrs. Begazo-McGourty is responsible for the Finance and Accounting Department, the Information & Technology Services, and the North Tampa Housing Development Corpo- ration Performance Based Contract Administration, which administers units
throughout the State of Florida and the U. S. Virgin Islands.
A graduate of the Univer- sity of South Florida, Mrs. Begazo-McGourty pos- sesses a degree in Accounting. She obtained her Master’s de- gree from the University of Phoenix as a Business Admin- istrations major. She is also a Certified Public Accountant in the State of Florida.
Mrs. Begazo-McGourty is married to George Mc- Gourty, the mother of four and the grandmother of two.
She became employed at the Tampa Housing Authority in 1999.
HCC Plans Fifth Annual HOPE
Scholars Summit
DR. CALVIN MACKIE Critically acclaimed author of “View from the Roof”
Members of Hillsborough Community College will host their Fifth Annual HOPE Scholars Summit, on Friday, March 4th. The event will take place at the Dale Mabry Cam- pus, 4001 N. Dale Mabry Highway, from 8:30 a.m. until 2 p.m.
The HOPE Scholars Pro- gram is designed to improve retention, graduation and the four-year college transfer rate of African American and His- panic males. The summit is designed as a retention tool to motivate and inspire stu- dents to reach their educa- tional goals.
Michael Benitez, Chief Diversity Author and Dean of Diversity and inclusion at the University of Puget Sound, located in the State of Wash- ington, will deliver the keynote address. Benitez is nationally regarded for his

commentary and critical per- spectives on social and cul- tural issues.
The event will also feature Dr. Calvin Mackie, the critically acclaimed author of “View from the Roof.” Dr. Mackie is a mentor and entrepreneur whose message challenges traditional think- ing on issues of race, gender, ethnicity, religion and politi- cal affiliation.
Hillsborough Community College recruiters will also be available.
The event is open to all HCC students, including African American and His- panic males from local high schools. Lunch will be pro- vided.
