  AIKENS
      MR. DAVID LEWIS
A Homegoing Celebration for Dea- con David R. Lewis of Tampa, Fl, who passed away on, Tuesday, July 14, 2020, will be held on Saturday, July 25th, 2 p.m. at New Mt. Zion M.B. Church, 2511 E. Columbus Dr., Pastor Larry Roundtree, II, officiating. The interment will be held in Myrtle Hill Cemetery.
David Rodney Lewis was born Octo- ber 15, 1952 in Houston, Texas to Hebert and Marion Lewis. He was the first born of four children.
David accepted Christ as his personal Lord and Savior at an early age, he was Christian and became a member of John- son Chapel A.M.E Church in Harrisburg- Smith Addition in Houston, Texas.
David joined The New Mt. Zion Mis- sionary Baptist Church, where he was baptized and served under the leadership of Reverend Walter J. Williams and now Pastor Larry Roundtree, II. \
He was an honor roll student at Lin- coln High School in San Diego, CA. He was also an All-State player during his junior and senior years. He was named Defensive Player Of The Year. His career at the University of Southern California (USC Trojans) was highlighted by a na- tional championship and a host of aca- demic and athletic achievement awards and accolades.
David graduated from The University of Southern California with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.
David was an avid sports fan, he was exceptionally talented in football, basket- ball, and baseball. However, his love for football would prove to be his career choice; David was honored as an All American and All PAC 10 player. He was the USC Defensive Player Of The Year and was inducted into the All-time Great Team of Southeastern California in 2012.
David was the Buccaneers second round draft pick in 1977 by his former col- lege coach, John McKay, which began his career in the National Football League, He also made the Pro Bowl in 1980.
David went on to play for the Los An- geles Rams and San Diego Chargers. David realized his football career would not last forever and said he did not want to be labeled as a “dumb football player.” Because of that negative label he perse- vered and was a remarkably successful business owner in Child Care (Fun Fac- tory Child Care Centers) and Culinary (Baby Cakes Restaurants).
David had a love for children and made sure he kept in touch with all of them and they kept in touch with him. David was also extremely passionate and talented in bowling. He participated in many tournaments throughout the United States and won many awards. He was an avid bowler with the “Showtyme” bowling team.
After his career with the NFL, David’s love for the game and children led him to his career in coaching high school foot- ball. Over the past 17 years, David has im- pacted so many young men on and off the field and during his coaching tenure at Tampa Catholic High School, Blake High School and Jefferson High School.
He served various capacities such as Defensive Coordinator, Assistant Head Coach and Head Coach.
He leaves to cherish his unforget- table love: wife, Bonnie Asberry-Lewis; daughter, Brianna Lewis, Tampa FL; son, Kelcey Griffin (Tyrecia) Beaumont Texas; sisters, Mary Tillis and Carla Queen of Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Anthony, Aniija, Bryce and Talona; uncles, John Van Lewis, Houston, Texas and Don Mc- Neil; and a host of relatives, friends, teammates and church-mates who will miss him.
The visitation will be held at New Mt. Zion M.B. Church, 2511 E. Columbus Dr., on Friday, July 24th, from 5 to 8 p.m. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. We are following the CDC guidelines.
MRS. FRANCES CAROL CARR SYKES
A Private Catholic Homegoing serv- ice for Mrs. Frances Carol Carr Sykes, 75, of Tampa, FL, who passed away sur- rounded by her loving family on July 12, 2020, was held on Wednesday, July 22nd, 11 a.m., at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church, 1203 N. Nebraska Ave., Father Theobald Weria, pastor officiating. The interment will be held at Florida Na- tional Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida.
Frances was preceded by: her par- ents the late George William, Jr., and Irene Caldwell Carr.
Frances was educated in the Hills- borough County Public School System, attending Harlem Elementary School and in 1962, graduated with highest hon- ors as Valedictorian of her class from Howard W. Blake Junior-Senior High School. Frances chose to continue her studies at her mother’s alma mater, Florida A & M University.
As a student in the School of Phar- macy, she earned the Lehn and Fink Gold Medal awarded to the graduating senior with the highest GPA and the Rex- all Mortar and Pestle awarded for out- standing leadership. She graduated in 1966 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy.
Frances interned at Tampa General Hospital, eventually taking a full-time position and becoming the first African American woman pharmacist at the hos- pital. After a rewarding career of 33 years, in hospital and managed care pharmacy, she retired in 2000.
Frances was married to her high school sweetheart, Joseph Sykes, for more than 46 years and together they were blessed to have three daughters. She was a longtime member of St. Peter Claver Catholic Church, where she was an active member in the choir and served as a member of the School Board.
Frances’ love for service was also ex- emplified through her 54-year member- ship in The Links Incorporated and her beloved sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. in which she was a Silver Star, denoting 25 years of continuous service. Throughout the years, Frances served on the Northside Mental Health Board of Directors, the Board of Trustees for the Henry B. Plant Museum, the Southwest Florida Regional Cancer Control Plan, the State of Florida Cancer Research and Advisory Board, the Na- tional FAMU Alumni Association and a charter member of the Greater Tampa Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. and Club 44.
She was also a dedicated and proud member of the Class of 1962 Howard W. Blake Junior-Senior High School alumni group. Frances will be especially re- membered for her love for her children, her faith, service, a kind yet strong spirit, her love of sports and dancing.
She leaves to cherish memories and to continue to celebrate her life: a de- voted husband, Joseph Sykes; daugh- ters, Carole Irene, Josette Rose, Stephanie Doreen; sister, Gladys Carr Blalock; sister-in-law, Dorothy Banks; nephew, Derrick Gaines (Stephanie); great nephews, Derrick, Jr. and Myles Gaines; cousins, Bessie Rodriguez, Nor- mita Rodriguez Jeffery (Tim), Antoinette Goodman, William Brown (Juliette), and Blanche White (Danny); the Preston and Fields families of Quincy, Florida. the Sykes and Gardner families of Talla- hassee; members of the Gamma Theta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and The Tampa (FL) Chap- ter of The Links, Inc.; and a host of ex- tended family and friends whose lives she touched as a friend, sorority sister, mentor, confidant, teacher, bonus mother and grandmother, cheerleader, decorator and loving person.
The family and friends met at the church for the service on Wednesday.

MR. CISRO ARNOLD VANCE
A Homegoing Memorial Service will be held at a later date for Mr. Cisro Arnold Vance, who passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2020. “Toochie,” as he was known to family and friends, was born July 13, 1950, in Tampa, Florida. He was educated in the public schools of Hillsborough County and was a graduate of Mid- dleton High School, class of ‘68.
He was employed with Hillsbor- ough County School District as a cus- todial supervisor and retired in 2005 after 35 years of service.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, Sonny and Blossom Vance; son, Darryl Vance; daughter, Dene- tria Vance Brown; brothers, Venson Vance and Carl Vance; niece, Nicole Campbell Small and nephew, Alvin Vance, Jr.

A Graveside Celebration for Mr. William P. Woods of Tampa, FL, who passed away on Wednes- day, July 8, 2020, will be held Sat- urday, July 25th, 11 a.m., Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery, 4615 E. Hanna Ave., Rev. Timothy Lancaster, officiating. The inter- ment will follow.
William P. Woods was born August 26, 1943, to the late Pierce and Pearl Douglas Woods. He at- tended St. Peter Claver Catholic School and graduated from Blake High School. He enjoyed music and dancing.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, brothers, Eddie Paul and Samuel Woods; sisters, Ellen Williams, Thelma Smith and Beat- rice Garrett; nephew, Robert Gar- cia and niece, April Woods.
