Black Panther - African-
American director Ryan
Coogler has made the first
Marvel film that should win an
Oscar for Best Picture, screen-
writers, male actor ( Chadwick
Boseman) and supporting
actor (Michael B. Jordan).
Yeah, I'm the first to say it!
Boseman (Black Panther) is
T'Challa, the King of Wakanda,
must protect his isolated, tech-
nologically advanced African
nation from villains Erik Kill-
monger (Jordan), Ulysses
Klaue (Andy Serkis- played
Caesar-Ape and Gollum-Lord Of the Rings), Tribe Leader M'Baku (Winston Duke) and W'Kabi (Daniel Kaluuya- Get Out). With the support of his tech wiz little sister Shuri (Letitia Wright), female General Okoye (Danui Gurira), friend Nakia(Lupita Nyong'o), CIA agent Everett Ross (Martin Freeman), Mother (Angela Bassett) and Zuri (Forest Whitaker), T'Challa (Black Panther) will need all the help to stop the villians and fight to the death for his nation. This was a well-written story by director Ryan Coogler and Joe Robert Cole. Black Panther smashed the box office by bringing in $192 million in three days and becoming the fifth biggest opening of all time. All hail the King! Still No. 1 at box office- $506M- U.S./ foreign- $408M -(budget-$200M)- excellent- ***** classic
Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle - Four teenagers discover an old video game console(Ju- manji) and are literally drawn into the game’s jungle setting, turning into the adult figures ( Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, Karen Gillan) they choose to be. Action-packed but the storyline was weak. Hate to say it for a Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart and Jack Black film, wait for it on DVD. Made - $393M U.S./ foreign- $536M (budget-$90M)- **1/2
Maze Runner: The Death Cure - The leader Thomas and friends ( Dylan O’Brien, Dexter Dar- den, Thomas Brodie-Sangster) embark on a mission to save their friend (Ki Hong Lee) and find a cure for a deadly disease. Started off slow, but picked up to making this a very good sci-fi thriller. Made - $56M U.S./ foreign- $215M- (budget- $62M)- ****
Den Of Thieves - An elite group of bank robbers called the Outlaws ( Pablo Schreiber, 50 Cent, O'Shea Jackson, Jr., Evan Jones) plan an seemingly impossible heist on the Federal Reserve Bank, but are investigated by an elite unit of the LA County Sheriff Dept. (Gerard Butler, Maurice Compte, Mo McRae). This well written, off -the-chain crime saga is well worth seeing for action fans. Check it out in the Dolby theater for the shoot out sounds. Director Christian Gudegast did a great job putting to- gether this suspenseful thriller and the surprise ending. Must -see! Didn't feel like it was 2hrs/20mins long. Made $44M (budget N/A)- classic
Star Wars: The Last Jedi - Director Rian Johnson starts the Last Jedi right where it left off with Rey (Daisy Ridley) struggling to get Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) to train her and return back to the Resistance. Meanwhile, The Resistance ( Oscar Isaac, John Boyega, Carrie Fisher) prepares to do battle with Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) and the First Order. Definitely a must see for the Star Wars fans. Enjoyed it. 2hrs/32mins long. Made - $618M / foreign- $711M-(budget-N/A)- ****
If Your Birthday Is Today: You are creative and psychic. You are compassionate and want to help others. This is a busy, social year when you will live life to the fullest. It’s a fun-loving year! You will want to nurture the happiness and beauty around you. Be grateful for what you have. Focus on the positive. Expect increased popularity and warm friendships that will delight.
Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20): You have strong feelings of escapism today. You want to get away from it all! You want to have fun and relax! Well, of course you do. Explore whatever you can to enjoy your day. “Men go fishing all of their lives without knowing it is not fish they are after.” (Thoreau).
Aries (March 21-April 19): Today you are focused on banking, insurance, inheritances and shared property or something that is jointly owned. Please note: This is a poor day to agree to anything important or sign important papers. Avoid these same areas!
Taurus (April 20-May 20): For most of today, the Moon is op- posite your sign, which is a disadvantage in your conversations with others. On top of this, there is a Moon Alert for most of this day. There- fore, agree to nothing important. Just hear what others have to say.
Gemini (May 21-June 20): Be careful and conservative at work today because of the Moon Alert. Don’t volunteer for anything. Don’t agree to any important deadlines. Just tread water and stick with busi- ness as usual. Avoid major business expenditures. (There might be some confusion with a pet. Woof!)
Cancer (June 21-July 22): This is a creative, fun-loving day for you! Enjoy the arts. Grab every chance to express your creative talents. Social outings, love affairs, sports events and playful activities with chil- dren will delight. Live it up! (Spend money only on food, gas and enter- tainment.).
Leo (July 23-Aug. 22): If you can cocoon at home today, this will please you. You need a breather. Family discussions might take place today, especially with a female family member. Keep things light. Don’t agree to anything important. Avoid major financial decisions.
Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22): This is a bit of a space cadet day. Just accept this and go with the flow. Do not make any important decisions or expenditures. However, it’s a creative day for writing. Your commu- nication style is off-the-wall but imaginative! Enjoy hanging out with relatives and siblings.
Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22): The way your chart is lined up today, you might be focused on financial matters or shopping. However, this is a poor day to shop or make financial decisions. Aye, there’s the rub. Restrict your spending to gas, food and entertainment.
Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21): For most of this day, there is a Moon Alert in your sign. This is why you feel indecisive and a bit vague or dis- tracted. It’s like you have no focus. Or if you do have focus, it’s brief. (“Why did I come in here?”) By the end of the day, things will settle out in a solid way.
Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21): Like Scorpio, you feel a bit at loose ends today. You’re not sure which direction to take. You’re not sure what to do first. Note: Restrict your spending to gas, food and en- tertainment. Avoid initiating important decisions. Be safe. Got it?
Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19): You will enjoy a frank conversa- tion with a female companion today. Both parties are ready to let their hair down and put their cards on the table. Whatever the case, enjoy chatting with others but do not agree to anything important.
Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18): Do be careful in your dealings with others today, especially parents, bosses and VIPs because the Moon Alert is taking place at the top of your chart, which can cause confusion in your relationships with authority types. Do not volunteer for any- thing. Don’t agree to a deadline.
