   National Week Of Prayer For The Healing Of AIDS At Allen Temple AME Church
 Memorial Services Planned For Popular West Tampa Businessman

A Memorial Service will be held for a popular West Tampa businessman. Mr. Ferrell Allan Melton, Sr., passed away on December 31, 2017. He was 83-years-old.
The service will take place Saturday, March 10, at 12 noon, at East Chelsea Baptist Church, 7225 E. Chelsea (cor- ner E. Chelsea and Orient Road). Dinner will follow.
A native of Everglades City, FL, Ms. Melton owned and operated Prince Grocery Store, corner of W. Columbus Drive and N. Blvd., for more than 50 years.
He was also well known as the president, manager, and coach of the Riverside Little League. Many youngsters from the West Tampa Com- munity played baseball and basketball under his guidance.
In addition to the hun- dreds of youngsters who learned the game of baseball, Mr. Melton was also active in the sport of basketball.
Archived news articles tell the story of his unbeaten Prince Grocery Club and its winning records.
He had numerous men’s league basketball teams that also won dozens of tourna- ments and championships under the Riverside Banner.
Mr. Melton is survived by his wife, Mrs. Nora Grieble Melton, 2 daugh- ters, his son, 3 grandchildren, and other family members and friends.

March 4-11, 2018 is the National Week of Prayer for the Healing of AIDS. In Tampa, a service will be held at Allen Temple AME Church on Friday evening, March 9th, 6-9 p. m. The hosts of this service are Positively U, Inc. and the Florida Department of Health. The church is located at 2101 N. Lowe St. Rev. Dr. Glenn Dames is the pastor.
According to Ms. Geneva Galloway, Director of Devel- opment Positively U, Inc., “the purpose of the 2018 National Week of Prayer for the Heal- ing of AIDS is to bring na- tional attention to the AIDS epidemic in the United States, and the role extraordinary faith communities can and are playing in the AIDS preven- tion, education service and ad- vocacy. That’s why we’re holding this service at Allen Temple.”
The theme of the prayer service is “Can Love Conquer The Stigma?”
Positively U is a non-profit organization founded in 2009. Janet Kitchen is the Founder and CEO. The organ- ization works in conjunction with community-based organ- izations to provide services to the HIV individuals and their families, Ms. Galloway ex- plained.
Through its outreach, the organization helps with coun- seling, housing, food assis-
tance, free testing and pro- vides workshops for women and teens.
Film Presentation – March 16th
In celebration of Women’s History Month and National Women and Girls’ HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, Nothing Without Us: The Women Who Will End AIDS, a film by Har- riet Hirshorn, will be pre- sented on Friday, March 16, 2018, 6 p. m. at WellCare Cen- ter, 200 W. Waters Ave., Tampa 33604 (next to Magic Mall).
The 67-minute film tells
the “inspiring story of the vital role that women have played – and continue – to play – in the global fight against HIV/AIDS.”
“This documentary will be a step in restoring women’s crucial role in the history and present-day activism around HIV, as well as bolstering the work of women everywhere still fighting for their lives,” explains Lapena Reid, who is assisting with this event.
The event is free and light refreshments will be served. There will also be testing on site.
