Movie Reviews/Horoscopes/Soaps
Goosebumps - A teenager (Dylan Minnette) hooks up with the daughter (Odeya Rush) of horror author R. L. Stine (Jack Black) after the writer’s imagi- nary monsters are set free on the town. Definitely a must-see for teens. No. 1 at box office. Made $23M. (Budget $58M). ***1⁄2
Bridge Of Spies - Directed by Steven Spielberg, this film is about an American lawyer (Tom Hanks) who is recruited by his law firm and the CIA during the Cold War to help rescue a pilot and student in the Soviet Union. This movie was well-written, but moved real slow in action. If you like Tom Hanks, go see. If not, wait for DVD. Made $15M. (Budget $40M). ***
The Walk - Based on a true story in 1974, high-wire artist Phillippe Petit (Joseph Gordon- Levitt) recruits a team to help him realize his dream of walk- ing across the World Trade Cen- ter. It took an hour before this film became interesting. Petit had to be insane to actually try and pull this high-wire act off. Made $9M. (Budget $35M). ***
The Martian - After a re- search mission on Mars (which takes 4 years to get there), As- tronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon) is presumed dead by his crew after a fierce sand storm. The crew had to leave him to save themselves. Watney
survives and then has to rely on his wit and spirit to survive on the planet without food. Well- written sci-fi thriller. Surpris- ingly, very good. 2 hrs. /10 mins. long. Made $143M. (Bud- get $108M). ****
Hotel Transylvania 2 - Dracula (voiced by Adam San- dler) and his friends try to bring out the monster in his half human grandson to keep his daughter Mavis from leaving the hotel. Kids will enjoy this animation. Made $136M. (Bud- get N/A). ***1⁄2
War Room - Directed by Alex Kendrick, this film was about Priscilla Shirer and T.C. Stalling as husband and wife who turn to Miss Clara (Karen Abercrombie) for strategic prayer to help their volatile re- lationship. This faith-based movie was surprisingly very good. 2hrs long. Must see! Made $65M. (Budget $3M). ****
Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials - After having escaped the difficult Maze, the Gladers (Dylan O’Brien, Ki Hong Lee, Dexter Darden, Thomas Sanster and Kaya Scodelario) now face a new set of craziness once they flee to the desolate landscape. I thought the first movie was very good and different, but this one was more intense with non-stop ac- tion. Must-see! Made $75M. (Budget $61M). ****
