Force Of Nature: Oprah Buys 10% Of Weight Watchers And Stock Soars
OPRAH
In Monday we reported that Oprah Winfrey purchased a 10 percent stake in Weight Watchers for $48 million. The acquisition came with a five- year endorsement agreement that would make Winfrey the face of the brand for some of its promotional efforts.
Well, because of Winfrey's power, reach and brand appeal, her 10 percent equity stake is now worth approximately $110 million, Forbes reports. Yep, more than double her initial in- vestment.
Oh, and there's more: The Weight Watchers stock bal- looned, too. Forbes is reporting that Winfrey's deal generated $700 million in "stock market value" for the company. The company's shares are up 170 percent since Monday morning.
In a statement, Ray Deb- bane, the chairman of Weight Watchers, called Winfrey a "force of nature." She sure is.
Becoming A Vegan Wendy Williams Loses 50 Pounds
These days Wendy Williams is maintaining her ultra-thin frame through veg- anism.
The talk-show host has re- vealed she’s lost 50 pounds in the last three years, chatting about her weight loss during Monday’s colorful episode of the “After Show,” a behind- the-scenes look at Williams backstage.
When a fan wrote in for diet advice, Williams said she’s cut meat, refined sugars and dairy from her diet. She does, though, miss eating eggs.
“I don’t love food as much as I used to,” said Will- iams, adding she doesn’t eat after dark.
Maintaining her size isn’t all about eating healthy — it comes with required gym time too.
“I go to the gym because it’s not about me trying to lose weight at this point, it’s about me fighting heart disease,” said the 51-year-old. “Every- body needs to race their heart, at least once a week.”
