Bethune Cookman Wildcats Edge Out Grambling State
Bethune QB, Tampa’s own Quentin Williams help the Wildcats win over Grambling State.
GRAMBLING, La. – Larry Brihm, Jr. and Tampa native, Quentin Williams combined to throw for 463 yards and six touch- downs as Bethune-Cookman scored late and held on for a 56-53 victory over Grambling State on Saturday night at Eddie G. Robinson Memorial Stadium.
Trailing 46-41 with 3:37 remaining in the game, Williams hit Jawill Davis, who finished with 199 yards, on a 29-yard scoring strike to retake the lead 49-46. Bethune-Cookman added another score with 1:48 left when Anthony Jordan ran in from 41 yards out. Grambling quickly
marched down the field and Johna Williams hit Chester Rogers with a 12-yard scoring strike to close to 56-53 with 54 seconds left.
In a game that was a defensive- minded first half, both teams went to the locker room tied at 14. However, the offenses found their rhythm in the second half, with the two teams com- bining for 81 points.
Bethune-Cookman (1-1) entered the fourth quarter leading 28-27.
Grambling State (0-2) quickly fought back to command a 39-28 lead on the strength of a Chester Rogers 21-yard touchdown run with 11:19 re- maining in the final stanza.
FAMU Let Samford Bulldogs Bring It To Them 58-21

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (Sept. 12) - The FAMU Football team flirted with suc- cess in the first quarter Saturday against the Samford Bulldogs, only to see their fleeting hopes dashed as the home team rallied for a 58-21 non-con- ference win at Seibert Stadium.
The Rattlers (0-2) built a 14-10 lead in the first period on the strength of Akil Blount's 65-yard interception return, and Gerald Hearns' one-yard scoring run.
But in the second quarter, the high-
flying Bulldogs (2-0) struck back for 31 unanswered points, converting three Rattler turnovers along the way into a 41-14 halftime lead.
Down 51-14 midway in the final pe- riod, Rattler halfback Devin Bowers lifted his club's fledgling spirits with a scintillating 73-yard touchdown jaunt with 7:20 left for a 51-21 score.
Samford tacked on a late score with under a minute left to close out the scoring.
Middleton Loses Close Game To King
What a way to open the high school football 2015 sea- son in Hillsborough County than to have a close game be- tween two big schools.
In what one observer has described as a nail biter, the King High Lions won a close game against the Middleton Tigers, 21-14.
The Tigers gave the game away by committing key fum- bles, one of them the Lions took and covered into a touch- down that sealed their victory.

Tennessee State Claims Southern Heritage Classic Win Over Jackson State 35-25
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Tennessee State Tigers opened both halves with a flurry as they secured a 35-25 win over Jackson State in the 26th Southern Her- itage Classic. A crowd of 48,335 witnessed the fourth consecutive win for Ten- nessee State over JSU at the Liberty Bowl. It was the largest crowd to watch the classic since 2008. TSU improved to 2-0 on the season as JSU fell to 0-2.
Tuskegee Overcomes Albany State In Whitewater Classic
PHENIX CITY, Ala. | Big plays and defense were the key in helping the Tuskegee University Golden Tigers beat Albany State 27-14 in the second annual Whitewater Classic, held at Garrett Harrison Stadium.
Although there were big plays throughout the game, the two biggest plays didn’t occur until the fourth quarter.
Tuskegee (2-0) and Albany State (0-2) traded possessions until the Golden Rams got the ball at their own 35-yard line with 5:50 remaining in the game. They proceeded to drive down the field, using 11 plays to get to the Tuskegee 10 yard line with just 30 seconds remaining, and that is where it ended.
Alcorn State Beats Alabama State 31-14
MONTGOMERY, ALA. –Alcorn State earned its first win of the season defeat- ing Alabama State for the second straight year 31-14 at ASU Stadium.
For the second consecutive week, the Hornets (0-2, 0-1 SWAC) had a lead that they were unable to sustain.
The Hornets took the lead twice on touchdown drives in the opening half, but the Braves (1-1, 1-0 SWAC) had a follow-up answer to combat the ASU attack.
Alcorn took a 17-14 lead into halftime on a 29-yard field goal by Haiden Mc- Craney and with a big edge in time of possession.
It’s all the points they would need.
