Crime
Two Men Face Gun And Drug Charges
Two men were taken into custody earlier this week and face numerous drug and firearm charges. The arrests came about following and in- vestigation by detectives with the Polk County Sheriff’s Of- fice.
According to police, detec- tives received information about possible methampheta- mine and cocaine sales taking place at the Royal Inn Motel, located between Winter Haven and Lake Alfred on U. s. 17. They conducted surveillance
JOHN MCDONOUGH AND MICHAEL BRADY
in the area and made a traffic stop on a rented Nissan with a Georgia license plate.
John McDonough, 33, was driving the vehicle and Michael Brady, 32, was the passenger. A Winter Haven Police Department K-9 alerted on the vehicle and a lawful search of the vehicle was con- ducted.
Police discovered a black container behind the front passenger seat in plain view. Officers observed a crystalline substance inside the container, which tested positive for methamphetamine, police said.
Detectives then obtained a search warrant for room 132 at
the motel, registered to Mc- Donough. Inside the room, police found 7 guns, one of which had been reported stolen and another firearm with the serial number re- moved. One of the firearms was an AK-47 with a fully loaded clip and attached drum magazine.
They also found narcotics and paraphernalia throughout the motel room. Police seized approximately 238 grams of methamphetamine, 492 grams of cocaine, and 196 grams of cannabis. They also located $4,843 in cash.
Both men have extensive criminal records, including felony convictions.
