49ers Suspend Radio Broadcaster Tim Ryan Over Lamar Jackson Comment
LAMAR JACKSON AND TIM RYAN
Cam Newton Will Reportedly Undergo Foot Surgery
CAM NEWTON
Cam Newton has been dealing with a foot injury since the preseason that was origi- nally expected to only require rest and rehab, but he has de- cided to go under the knife.
The goal for Newton with surgery will be to be fully healthy by March, which is when the Panthers have to make a decision about his fu- ture.
There have been reports that he will not return to Car- olina next season, and being able to prove that his foot is fully healed will make it easier to trade him or for him to sign a new contract if the Panthers end up releasing him.
Jets Reportedly Open
   To Trading Le’Veon
Bell After Season
San Francisco 49ers color commentator Tim Ryan has been suspended for one game after suggesting that Lamar Jackson is good at faking handoffs because of “dark skin with a dark foot- ball.”
Ryan made the com- ments in a Monday appear- ance on KNBR’s “Murph and Mac” when analyzing Jack- son’s performance in Sun- day’s Baltimore Ravens victory.
“He’s really good at that fake, Lamar Jackson, but
when you consider his dark skin with a dark football with a dark uniform, you could not see that thing,” Ryan said, via Matthias Gafni and Lauren Hernandez of the San Francisco Chronicle. “I mean you literally could not see when he was in and out of the mesh point and if you’re a half step slow on him in terms of your vision forget about it, he’s out of the gate.”
In his own statement, Ryan said he regretted his “choice of words” and apolo- gized to Jackson.
The New York Jets signed Le’Veon Bell to a massive contract this past offseason, but they may be looking to part ways with the star run- ning back just one season into the deal.
The Jets are going to be “amenable” to trading Bell after the season concludes, Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports. They already shopped the three-time Pro Bowler ahead of the trade deadline, and it seems like Bell and Jets head coach Adam Gase are far from a perfect fit.
Bell is in the first season of a four-year, $52.5 million deal he signed with the Jets that includes $27 million
LE’VEON BELL
guaranteed. He carries salary cap hits of $15.5 million, $13.5 million and $15 million over the next three seasons. The team will almost cer- tainly have to eat some money if they want to move him, but Gase may push for it to happen.
