Taraji P. Henson Opens Up About Mental Health And Menopause
Gabrielle Union Calls Her 5-Hour Meeting With NBC 'Productive'
Now both NBC and Gabrielle Union are calling their sit down yesterday over America’s Got Talent “pro- ductive,” but it looks like all roads could lead to Simon Cowell.
“The initial conversation was candid and productive,” said the network this after- noon after a nearly five-hour meeting on Tuesday about the alleged toxic culture on the long running competition se- ries. “While there will be a further investigation to get a deeper understanding of the facts, we are working with Gabrielle to come to a posi- tive resolution,” added NBC.
Among a number of topics raised, that further investiga- tion involves AGTcreator and judge Cowell, who seems to be at the center of what went down during Union’s one-

season stint on the show. However, the next step in the process for NBC is to have an as yet undetermined inde- pendent investigator priori- tize moving things forward. How much of that process Cowell will be is not yet clear.
She’s played some of the toughest roles on television and film -- like Cookie Lyon on "Empire" and Ali Davis in "What Men Want" -- but off screen, Taraji P. Henson is saying not to let the strong fa- cade fool you.
"Sometimes, the weight is just too much and to put on that facade like you are strong all the time is exactly what it is, a facade; that’s whack," she said in a video for SELF Maga- zine.
The 49-year-old, who is on the digital cover of the Decem- ber issue of SELF magazine, opened up about her struggles with mental health and menopause.
In a video for SELF, Hen- son revealed that she strug- gles with depression and anxiety, something she real- ized about two years ago when she would get mood swings.
"I would get so low, really,

really low, beaten, like never before," she told SELF. "You may have those days [when] you're like, 'Oh, I just don’t feel like getting out of bed. I just want to sleep in,' but you don’t feel heavy. I was just starting to feel heavy a lot, [like] suffo- cating. ... It just came out of nowhere."
Henson said at first she didn’t realize that some of those mood swings could be related to menopause, but
after checking in with her ther- apist, she learned how to cope and manage those highs and lows.
"[That confirmation] made me feel better, but now I still have to manage it," said Hen- son. "That just means talking to my therapist when I feel this way, doing things to get me out of the muck."
Mood swings leading up to menopause are actually more common than many might think.
According to the Mayo Clinic, in the months or years leading up to menopause -- the time that marks the end of women’s menstrual cycles -- mood changes are among the many signs and symptoms.
One way to manage those symptoms includes practicing relaxation techniques like deep breathing, getting massages to relax muscles and even guided imagery.
Clive Davis May Be Called To Testify In Family’s Battle Over Aretha Franklin’s Estate
Aretha Franklin’s family is entangled in a legal battle over control of her estate, and now record exec Clive Davis is being dragged into it.
We previously reported, Franklin’s son Kecalf Franklin wants the courts to remove the personal represen- tative of his mother’s estate, Sabrina Owens (who is also his cousin), and name him as the rep in charge of all matters related to the late Queen of Soul.
Kecalf claims Owens has failed to give an accurate de- scription of the assets owned by his mother on the date of her death, according to court documents obtained by The Blast. Owens has fired back by filing a witness list as she

Aretha’s son, Edward Franklin, has also filed docs backing his brother Kecalf’s move to remove Owens as the personal estate rep.
They are accusing her of mismanaging the estate and failing to perform her duties. Kecalf also has questions about “uncashed personal checks from Sound Exchange (music royalties) and Screen Writers Guild in the amount of $702,711.90 and uncashed checks from EMI and other music companies in the amount of $285,944.27. The total amount of uncashed checks comes to $988,656.17,” The Blast reports via Yahoo.
