Noble Lesley ‘Les’ Miller, Jr. Garners Desert Of Florida Outstanding Leadership Award
School District Participates In Summer Food Program
Recently, Harram Tem- ple No. 23, Inc., Prince Hall Shriners and Harram Court No. 96, a Constituent Court of the Imperial Court, hosted the Desert of Florida Desert Conference/Gala Day Cele- bration 2017 in Tampa, May 24-28, 2017.
The gathering was held at the DoubleTree by Hilton Tampa Airport-Westshore. The Imperial Deputy of the Desert of Florida is Honorary Past Imperial Potentate (HPIP) Billy D. McLamb, No. 182 and the Imperial Deputy for the Desert of Florida Daughters is Dt. Mary Caldwell-Williams (99), HPIC.
Over 500 people were in attendance. This included delegates, youth groups and family members from around the State of Florida

(which is called the Desert of Florida).
On Saturday, May 27, 2017, during the Deputies Ball and the Awards Presen- tation, Tampa’s very own HPIP Lesley “Les” Miller, Jr., who is the Illus- trious Potentate for Harram Temple No. 23, Inc., Prince Hall Shriners, was surprised
when he received the Desert of Florida Outstanding Lead- ership Award. HPIP Miller also serves as Hillsborough County Commissioner for District 3.
This prestigious award goes to an individual who is alive at the time of nomina- tion, must have resided in the City (Oasis) where Desert Conference/Gala Day is being held for a period of ten (10) years or more, have demonstrated extraordinary leadership to the commu- nity, must have provided leadership in more than one focus area throughout the ten or more years in order to qualify for this award and must have been willing to support the Nobles and Daughters of the Oasis in which they reside if asked to do so.
For the sixth consecutive year, the Hillsborough County Public School District is partici- pating in the Summer Food Pro- gram. The food program began on Tuesday, May 30th, through Wednesday, August 2nd.
The food will be delivered to communities via the Student Nu- trition Services “Movin Meals Food Buses.” The district is using five renovated school buses to de- liver breakfast and lunch. The buses allow the children to eat on the air-conditioned buses.
The buses will visit the loca- tions and provide breakfast and lunch to children 18 years of age and younger Monday through Thursday.
