Camp Registration Has Begun
Limited Scholarships Are Available
After several months of strategic planning for its 3rd “A Marvelous Experience in the Arts” Summer Enrich- ment Camp, the Greater Mt. Carmel Development Corp. announces its Kickoff Event, “Thank Goodness It’s Summer” Open House and Pizza Party on Friday, June 2, 2017. The location is Greater Mt. Carmel AME Church, 4209 N. 34th St., Tampa, 33610, The time of this event is 6pm to 8pm.

GMC’s summer ARTS Camp will offer a 7-week Music, Dance, and STEM ex- perience that will provide ex- tended and more intense performing arts experiences, educational outreaches and enrichment through a variety of programs by reaching out to educators, local artists, fami- lies, and community partners. The goal is to establish men- toring relationships that will continue beyond the Summer Camp experience.
The Summer Enrichment curriculum is a unique blend of Music, Dance, STEM, Literacy, Character Development, Safety &, Learning tours - (each week will include a “Safety” Curriculum Activity). This year Bicycle and Pedes- trian Safety; Conversational Spanish, Chess, and Horticul- ture-Gardening for Food &
Fun will be offered.
In addition, a different Arts
genre will be presented each week (voice, piano, Pan- tomime, Drama and several Dance genres). One commu- nity event will be a STEM Fair. Participants will compete for special incentives and prizes.
The STEM curriculum in- clude: BRICKS 4 KIDZ – which uses the LEGO Bricks students love, to deliver hands- on lessons related to cross-dis- ciplinary curriculum objective. The Bricks 4 Kidz approach to learning is imaginative, multi- sensory and fun, creating a dy- namic learning experience. The educational and develop- mental benefits include cre- ativity and problem solving, organization, following direc- tions, cooperation and team- work.
The Literacy Curriculum include MyOn: an award-win- ning personalized literacy en- vironment that incorporates: a state-of-the art learning plat- form; enhanced digital reading content; daily news articles written for students; the Lex- ile® Framework for Reading; cutting-edge literacy tools and embedded metrics to monitor activity and growth.
The summer initiative will culminate with a SHOWCASE of talents, skills, knowledge and appreciation performed by the campers.
This “Marvelous Experi- ence in the Arts” initiative is funded in part by the Chil- dren’s Board of Hillsborough County. The Camp will begin on Monday, June 5th and con- clude on July 28, 2017.

Jefferson High Business And Finance Academy Students Travel To New York
Students in the Business and Finance Academy at Jefferson High School traveled to New York in April, 2017. All competed at an international level against other business firms from across the world.
Each department of the company, NeuVen, competed in the Youth Summit. The Human Resource Department placed 9th out of 213 firms that also competed. Marquia Trigg and Chandani Singh, the two Human Resource Representatives, represented their CEO and ad- visors very well. As a whole, the company won Gold Salesmanship and Top 4 Elevator Pitch presented by Kyra Sandman.

Progress Village Foundation Holds 2017 Scholarship Banquet
The Progress Village Foundation, Inc. held its Annual Scholarship Banquet on Friday, May 26th at the Embassy Suite Hotel, Palm River Rd. The event recognizes 9th-12th grade students that made the honor roll, high school graduates and college students of the Progress Village Community.
