Plant City Church To Host Gospel Concert
Strawberry Festival Names New President
This Saturday, May 23rd, Gospel Mets Ministries will be hosting an anniversary celebration of the founding of the gospel group, True Purpose. The celebration will begin at 7 p. m.
Pastor Edith Langston and her sister, Pastor Rose Smith are the founders of Gospel Mets Ministries, and Pastor Langston’s daugh- ter, Anita Byrd, is one of the founders of True Pur- pose.
Special guests for the gospel concert will be Brother Gene Bell, Gospel Warriors and Traveling Stars, Keisha Clark, Ervin Givens, and the Gospel Mets.
“We’re always having events at Gospel Mets Min- istries, so it’s a pleasure to be hosting this event for my daughter and her group,”
PASTOR EDITH LANGSTON
said Pastor Langston.
“It makes it really special to have the members of True Purpose as members of Gospel Mets Ministries, and whenever we have a pro-
gram, we can always count on having a packed house.”
Pastor Langston said Plant City has long been a great place to live with deep religious roots.
“Church events continue to draw big crowds in Plant City, and we have a food ministry that’s really starting to pick up.
“It’s also a good thing that people are starting to notice and read about what’s going on in Plant City. The reason a lot of people don’t know about all the church events is because most people send their news to a radio station in Lakeland.”
Pastor Langston said they have an open invitation to anyone who wants to come out and join them Sat- urday in celebrating the first anniversary of True Pur- pose.
For the past two years, Jim Jeffries sought to bring more diversity to the annual Straw- berry Festival held in Plant City. As President, he spear- headed the effort to include more African American per- formers at the event, including this year with John Legend and Boys 2 Men performing.
After a meeting by the Board of the Strawberry Festival, Dan Walden was elected as President. Walden had previ- ously served as a board mem- ber for 15 years.
Festival presidents serve two, one-year-terms, and along with Walden, Sandee Parke Sytsma was elected vice president; Floyd Hall was elected secretary, and W.
