White House And Political News
First Lady Allegedly Slaps Away President’s Hand After They Arrive In Israel
Republicans Ask Federal Appeals Court To Keep Healthcare Lawsuit On Hold For Another 90 Days
Emergency room nurse ad- ministering IV to patient.
The House of Representatives and Department of Justice plan to ask the District of Columbia federal appeals court Monday to keep on hold for another 90 days a lawsuit that questions the legality of cost-sharing subsidies in the Affordable Care Act, ac- cording to four people familiar with the matter.
The White House, during that time, will continue to make pay- ments to insurers, according to a senior administration official.
The payments, called "cost- sharing reductions," represent billions of dollars annually to the insurance industry to offset plans for low-income partici- pants on the ACA exchanges.
Insurers intending to offer plans on Obamacare exchange in 2018 must submit their pro- posed pricing in the coming days and weeks.
If the executive branch had decided Monday to drop its de- fense of the case — which would then let stand a federal judge's decision that the payments to insurers were illegal — insurers were expected to request even higher premium rates for Oba- macare health plans next year than they otherwise would have.
However, the delay in resolv- ing the case will continue uncer- tainty over the fate of the cost-sharing subsidies, which also could cause insurers to price plans higher to reflect the chance the money might go away by next year.
Here Is Why Republicans Are TryingTo Keep Lawsuit Out Of Court:
The dispute relates to the ACA's requirement that insurers offer lower-income Obamacare customers reduced charges for out-of-pocket health expenses, including co-payments, de- ductibles and coinsurance. In- surers offer those discounts up front, but then expect to be re- imbursed for them by the fed- eral government.
Meanwhile: Former President And First Lady Enjoy Romantic Vacation In Italy
Former first lady Michelle strolls with friends in Montalcino, Italy where she was greeted with excitement. The next day she and former president Barack enjoyed sightseeing in Tuscany.
President Trump and wife, Melania, touched down in Is- rael on Monday morning, and their arrival included a strange tarmac moment between the U.S. commander in chief and first lady.
The president and first lady were greeted in Tel Aviv by Is- raeli Prime Minister Ben- jamin Netanyahu and wife, Sara, who walked side by side as they left the tarmac. As Pres- ident Trump and Melania moved along, the president reached for his wife's hand.
"It appears First Lady
Melania Trump slaps away Pres. Trump's hand as he reaches to hold it while on tar- mac in Israel," Niraj Warikoo of the Detroit Free Press notes via Twitter.
The pair's arrival in Tel Aviv marks the second leg of their foreign journey to five nations.
During their first stop in Saudi Arabia, Melania Trump made headlines when she and first daughter, Ivanka Trump decided not to wear the tradi- tionally conservative headscarf worn by the women of that country.
Is anyone having more fun than former President and First Lady, Barack and Michelle Obama post-pres- idency? On Saturday, Michelle was spotted doing some sightseeing in Montal- cino, Italy, with a few friends (and Secret Service person- nel). The former first lady was all smiles while walking the streets and waving to onlook- ers. As Michelle got in some girl time, Barack hit the links and was seen playing a round of golf at the Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco.
The following day, the Obamas spent time sight-
seeing at the five-star Borgo Finocchieto estate in Tus- cany; the couple cuddled up while their friend snapped pictures.
Since leaving the White House in January the Oba- mas have taken trips to Hawaii, the U. S. Virgin Is- lands, NYC, and Tahiti.
During their time in Italy, Barack is reportedly set to meet with Matteo Renzi, the former Italian prime min- ister, and Barack and Michelle will also do some relaxing in Florence and Siena.

Sheriff David Clarke in Russia.
Notre Dame Graduates Walk Out During V.P. Mike Pence’s Commencement Speech
Controversial Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke, who this week announced he will be joining Donald Trump's administration as as- sistant secretary in the Depart- ment of Homeland Security, allegedly plagiarized sections of his 2013 master's thesis on U.S. security, a CNN KFile review has found.
Clarke, who also took an all- expense-paid trip to Russia not too long ago, the Daily Beast re- ports.
In all instances reviewed by CNN's KFile, Clarke lifts lan-
guage from sources and credits them with a footnote, but does not indicate with quotation marks that he is taking the words verbatim.
Clarke is known for his eye- brow-raising comments, includ- ing calling Black Lives Matter a hate group and calling the or- ganization "Black Lies Matter."
Clarke has also faced criti- cism for his management of a Milwaukee County Jail, where local prosecutors say an inmate died of dehydration after going a week without water.
Dozens of students walked out of Vice President Mike Pence’s commencement speech at the University of Notre Dame on Sunday.
One student sported a rain- bow cape, while a number of others who walked out in protest bore rainbow flags on their graduation caps.
Pence, a former governor of Indiana, has a history of hostility toward the LGBTQ community.
In his remarks at the Indi- ana university, the vice presi- dent criticized what he called campus “safe spaces” and urged students not to sup- press free speech.
Pence is not the only polit- ical speaker who’s received a mixed welcome at the univer- sity. In 2009, then-Presi- dent Barack Obama faced protests over his support for abortion rights, with some graduates choosing to skip the ceremony altogether.
