Two Students Receive Herbert B. Holley Scholarship
BY IRIS B. HOLTON Sentinel City Editor
On June 30th, two young adults learned they had been selected for a special gift. They were the first two stu- dents chosen as recipients of the Herbert B. Holley Memorial Scholarship.
The recipients are Ms. Kylii Clay, of Evans, Geor- gia, and Roberto Diaz, of Tampa.
Ms. Clay is a graduate of Greenbrier High School. She plans to attend Florida A & M University as a Broadcast Journalism major. Once she completes school, her ulti- mate goal is to become a tel- evision anchor.
Ms. Clay is the daughter of Dameon and Dr. Leila Jerome Clay, of Evans, Georgia. While she has set her goals on journalism, Ms. Clay said dance has always been a part of her life and she has “a love for music.”
Roberto Diaz is a grad- uate of Chamberlain High School. He plans to attend Full Sail University as a Recording Arts major.
His mentor, Tavis Myrick, said Roberto is an example of what determina- tion can result in. Roberto began high school as a “D” and “F” student. However, he became affiliated with Gentlemen’s Quest of Tampa, Inc. and his life changed.
He turned his life around and made straight “As” every nine-week period of his sen- ior year. Myrick said Diaz was overwhelmed and stated that he never thought college would be a reality for him.
He is the son of Ms. Martha Garces.
