Local Chapter Of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Celebrates With Annual Black And Gold Ball

With More Than $50,000 Raised in Scholarships - Helping Young Men Further their Aspirations of a College Education
The local chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incor- porated (APhiA) will once again further the mission of providing deserving young men with scholarship dollars and laptops through its an- nual Black and Gold Ball. “A Night Out at the Oscars” is this year’s theme celebrating
72 years of service and schol- arship. This semi-formal event will be held at the Hilton Hotel, 211 N. Tampa Street in downtown Tampa. Attendees can expect dinner, dancing, and casino gaming for their enjoyment.
This one of a kind affair begins at 6 p. m. on Saturday, May 20th. Tickets can be pur- chased from any member of the Gamma Zeta Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, or online at www.gzleducationalfounda-

Along with scholarship funding, proceeds raised will also go towards the many acts of service the brothers of APhiA participate in around the Tampa Bay area. One of the signature initiatives man- aged by the local chapter is the Men Of Tomorrow Pro- gram (MOT). The MOT Pro- gram is geared toward motivating and mentoring students from underserved communities to continue
their education, complete high school and enter college. Middle and high school stu- dents are involved in interac- tive workshops and thoughtful group discussions, including FCAT/ACT/SAT test preparation; collage preparation; financial aid and managing personal fi- nances.
“We encourage the com- munity to come out and sup- port this wonderful event,” says Chapter President Howard Harris. “It will
take all of us to invoke the change that we need to see in our communities. We also must continue to shine a light on the paths that lead our young men to successful fu- tures. We can only do that by modeling excellence, encour- aging them, and supporting their educational goals!”
Gamma Zeta Lambda is the 172nd alumni chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated. It was char- tered on March 21, 1945 in the city of Tampa.
