Four New Principals Assigned To Area Schools

Last week, Jeff Eakins, Superintendent of the Hills- borough County School Dis- trict, assigned four principals to area schools. He also re- located four other principals. The newly appointed princi- pals will step into their roles beginning on June 5th.
Superintendent Ea- kins said the selection for new principals involves un- derstanding the particular needs of a school and then seeking to find the right match to meet those needs.
The newly appointed principals are: Renel Math- urin, Ms. Larissa McCoy, Ms. Lisa Varnum, and Ms. Mary Hewett.
Renel Mathurin cur- rently serves as the Assistant Principal for Elementary In- struction at Shaw Elemen- tary School. He will become the Principal of MOSI Part- nership Elementary School.
Ms. Larissa McCoy
currently serves as the Assis- tant Principal for Curriculum at Leto High School. She will become the Principal of Leto High School.
Ms. Lisa Varnum cur- rently serves as the Assistant Principal for Elementary In- struction at Yates Elemen- tary School. She will assume

the duties of Principal at Thonotosassa Elementary School
Ms. Mary Hewett cur- rently serves as the Assistant Principal for Elementary Ed- ucation at Nelson Elemen- tary School. She has been elevated to the role of Princi- pal at Nelson Elementary School.
Principals who will be re- located are as follows:
Ms. Mary Freitas will leave Lennard High School to serve at Sickles High School.
Ms. Joanne Griffiths
will become the Principal at Cimino Elementary School. She is leaving Cahoon Ele- mentary Magnet School.
Brent Weaver is leav- ing Davidson Middle School as its principal to become the principal of Martinez Middle School.

In addition to approving the new principals and trans- fers, the Hillsborough County School Board ap- proved the transfer of several assistant principals.

Assistant Principal for Ele- mentary Instruction at Broward Elementary School, will become the Assistant Principal for Student Affairs at Rampello K-8.
Ms. Renee Best has been reassigned to become the Assistant Principal for Elementary Instruction at Shaw Elementary School. She was the Assistant Princi- pal for Elementary Instruc- tion at Claywell Elementary School.
