Children Injured After Fallen Tree Brings Down Power Line
Two East Tampa children were shocked last Thursday by a fallen electric wire. The wire was knocked down after a tree fell, bringing it down.
Jermireka Merritt, 14, and Jermeal Merritt, 12, were both taken to a local hospital for burns. Both are expected to make a full recov- ery.
According to the Tampa Police Department, the 9-1-1 call was received at approxi- mately 6 p.m. Fire Rescue re- sponded to the intersection of N. 37th Street and E. Os- borne in reference to a tree being on fire. When firefight- ers arrived at the scene, they learned the tree, located on the property of 4808 N. 37th Street, had fallen on a nearby Tampa Electric pole, causing the pole to fall on the fence at 3624 E. Osborne Avenue.
Soon after the tree fell, the children ran from the home and seeing the shrubs on fire, attempted to jump over the fence to get out of the yard. At that point, both received a minor electrical shock as a re- sult of the downed electric wire.
