Seffner Christian Academy Names Eric Hayes As Varsity Boys Basketball Coach
Officials at Seffner Christian Academy announced on July 1st that they had named Eric Hayes as the new Varsity Boys Basketball Coach.
Having nearly 20 years of head coaching experience, Hayes is ex- cited about the new challenge. Hav- ing been a “Crusader” at Tampa Catholic High School, he joins an- other group of Crusaders at Seffner Christian.
While at Tampa Catholic, Hayes was an All County, All Area, and All State Player. He is a Tampa Catholic Athletic Hall of Fame in- ductee. He graduated in 1993.
After high school, Hayes went

on to the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC), gradu- ating in 1997 with a degree in Com- puter Information Systems.
Having been mentored under his high school coach, Don Dzigwa, Hayes began his coach- ing career in Cleveland, OH. He re- turned to Florida and took head coaching positions in Brooksville, Dunellon, and Ocala before return- ing to Tampa as the head coach at Thomas Jefferson High School.
Among his accomplishments are: TBBCA Coach of the Year (2015), Tampa Tribune Male Coach of the Year (2015), St. Petersburg
Times Hillsborough County Coach of the Year (2015), Western Con- fewrence American Division Coach of the Year (2013-2015), Sam Hor- ton Coach of the Year (2013, 2014); and he finished 3rd in the Florida Dairy Farmers Coach of the Year Voting (Class 6A-2015).
The Tigers of Jefferson High School were final four participants in the 2015 State Championship, Class 6-A.
Hayes is married to LaTanya Hayes, an educator, and he is the son of James and Gwen Hayes. He is an active member of New Mt. Zion M. B. Church.
Black Medical Physicist Awarded The Designation Of Fellow Of The American College Of Radiology

Mr. Charles Michael Able is among the distinguished scientists and clinical research professionals in the field of radiology, to receive the Fellow of the American College of Radiology, one of the highest honors awarded to diagnostic radi- ologists, radiation oncologist, in- terventional radiologists, medical physicists, and nuclear medicine physicians.
Able, who is the current Di- rector of Medical Physics at the Florida Cancer Specialists and Re- search Institute in Tampa, FL., has a career that spans over 30 years working as a Medical Physicist in cancer research and radiation ther- apy. Through his leadership, the radiation therapy program has
grown from six to nine centers in 2020. The nine centers include eleven accelerators and two mobile HDR systems that are treating on average 300 patients a day.
Able has traveled all over America, Austria, Switzerland and China speaking about cancer re- search and medical physics. He represents the 1% of African Amer- icans working in the Medical Physics profession.
Able’s goal is to use his medical physics platform to do motiva- tional speaking, to publish litera- ture to uplift the African American community and to encourage mi- nority youth to follow their dreams and aspirations.
Able grew up in Baltimore, Maryland, the son of Mr. Dou- glas Milton Able, Jr. and Blanche Elizabeth Able, the

third born of his six brothers and sisters.
Able faced adversity, racism and various challenges as he as- pired to advance his career and ed- ucation in Medical Physics.
Nevertheless, Able has learned that there is no substitute for excel- lence.
Able graduated from Frostburg State University, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and Mathematics, mi- noring in Computer Science. In 1987, Able graduated from the University of Texas Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences spe- cializing in Radiological Therapeu- tic Physics.
Beyond his career as a Medical Physicist, Able is the founder and owner of Boom Publishing and Broadcasting, Inc., publishing fic- tion and nonfiction African Ameri- can literature. His debut as an author will be an autobiography, highlighting his childhood, family and career, in June 2021.
