Little Dresses For Africa
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. is committed to providing dresses for little girls in Africa, but not just any little dresses. Chapters throughout the world partic- ipated in making these dress donations from pillowcases. The Gamma Theta Omega Chapter set a goal to make 1,000 dresses for this worthy project. Sewing circles around the Hillsborough County area formed and the work resulted in partner- ships which resulted in the completion of 943 dresses.
Tampa Police Chief, Eric Ward, participated by de- signing and sewing four dresses himself. Dr. Moira Burke, Ophthalmolo- gist/Medical Director Pre- mier Eyecare, donated eight dresses to the cause. The project gained so much inter- est, the chapter was asked to appear on the Morning Show at WFLA Channel 8. The dresses were delivered during the 2016 Boule in At- lanta, GA.
