  Did Popeye’s Tap Into The ‘Cultural Capital’ Of Black Folks To Sell Chicken?
  Johnson & Johnson Ordered To Pay $572M In First Opioid Case
 A ruling against Johnson & Johnson followed the country’s first trial brought by a state government seek- ing to hold a drugmaker re- sponsible for the opioid epidemic.
A judge has ordered Johnson & Johnson to pay $572 million to Oklahoma for its role in fueling the state’s opioid crisis, in a highly an- ticipated ruling likely to have implications for a mass of lit- igation across the country challenging opioid makers and distributors.

  sponsible for the death and devastation wrought by the opioid epidemic. Local gov- ernments, hospitals and tribes have filed nearly 2,000 similar lawsuits — many of
which have been tied to- gether — challenging phar- maceutical companies over their alleged roles in flooding the country with powerful prescription painkillers.
    Who has the better chicken sandwich, Chick-fil-A or Popeyes?
It’s the burning question Black Twitter has been debat- ing since last week.
As we previously reported, Popeyes launched its spicy fried chicken sandwich ear- lier this month and there wasn’t much hoopla about it until Chick-fil-A alluded to it Monday in a tweet that sparked a Chicken Sandwich debate among Black Twitter users.
Other fast food eateries joined in to boast about their own signature chicken sand- wiches, including Wendy’s and Shake Shack.
Wendy’s tweeted “Y’all out
here fighting about which of these fools has the second- best chicken sandwich.”
Popeye’s responded with, “Sounds like someone just ate one of our biscuits. Cause y’all looking thirsty.”
By the end of the week, Black Twitter’s support of Popeyes new chicken sand- wich helped the fast-food chain rack up $20 million in sales. Apex Marketing Group also released a report esti- mating Popeyes received $23.25 million in equivalent ad value, across digital, print, social, TV, and radio in just 11 days. Much of the hype can be credited to Black Twitter users raving about the sand- wich.
 St. Louis Mayor Offers $100,000 In Rewards For Arrests In 4 Unsolved Child Killings
 Jurnee Thompson, 8, is the latest victim of a fatal shooting in St. Louis. Her death is among at least a dozen children who have been killed by gunfire in the city since June.
Now, Mayor Lyda Krewson has a sizable mon- etary offering of $100,000 aimed at inspiring commu- nity residents to step forward and help put an end to the vi- olence that’s claimed so many children’s lives.
The offering is good only until Sept. 1, which “ex- presses the urgency of this situation,” Mayor Krewson said Saturday.
Cash rewards of $25,000 each are being offered for four separate unsolved cases, including Thompson’s death, which occurred after a fight broke out following a

The other three unsolved cases attached to the offering are the shooting deaths of 2- year-old Kayden Johnson, who died with his mother when they were both shot on April 30 in their home, and the June 9 death of 3-year-
old Kennedi Powell, who was standing in front of her home with family, and 10- year-old Eddie Hill, who was on the porch of his home on July 19 when he was shot and killed.
No suspects have been charged for any of their deaths.
