BY IRIS B. HOLTON Sentinel City Editor
Whenever something new is introduced to a community, it draws a crowd. Some come out of curiosity. Others come be- cause it’s an opportunity to have a new experience.
But whatever the reason, people from throughout the Tampa Bay Area will be in atten- dance at the first “Historic Ybor City Corvette Car Show.”
The show will take place on August 31st, and residents will have an opportunity to make it a family day. It will begin at 11 a.m., on the corner of 7th Avenue and N. 15th Street at Jazzin at the

“It has been a real pleasure to work with so many positive people who want to make this a first-class event. We have broth- ers and sisters coming from all over, bringing their Corvettes and showing love.
“This is a great opportunity to come to the show, enjoy all types of food and entertain- ment.
“And because we want to give back to the community while helping worthy causes, proceeds from the show will benefit St. Peter Claver Catholic School and the City of Tampa Department of Parks and Recre- ation.”

Larry Johnson said, “I have had a Corvette since the 1970s. So this is a show you must not miss. There are going to be all makes and models of the Corvette on display.
“Corvettes are unique and pound for pound, the price of the Corvette is unprecedented for its speed and performance.
“Your attendance at the show is extremely appreciated because it helps the parks and the school, both organizations established to provide and en- hance quality programs for the inner-city children of Tampa.”
City Councilman Or- lando Gudes said, “It is always a good thing when someone sees a need to bring something dif- ferent to the community. By bringing this show, Marvin Knight is getting African Amer- icans more involved in the events going on around them.
“There are a lot of events that take place in the city, but we’re not involved, we’re on the sidelines. Entrepreneurs like Marvin Knight make it possi- ble for all of us to have a chance to get involved. And that is what I want to continue. I want to make sure we can have events such as this in our own commu- nities.”
“The “Historic Ybor City Corvette Car Show” will be in Ybor City, so we are encour- aging everyone to come out and make the show part of your Labor Day Celebration.”
Knight said the car show is

About The Corvette
The Corvette, named after a small maneuverable warship, was introduced to the world in 1953 as Chevrolet’s sports car. It is a front engine, rear drive, two- door, and two passenger vehicle.
The second generation of the vehicle was introduced 10 years later in coupe and con- vertible styles.
It was originally designed as a show car, but it generated enough interest to induce Gen- eral Motors to sell a version to the public. General Motors in- troduced 300 hand-built polo white vehicles in 1953.
Since its introduction, the Corvette has been released by generations and with various changes throughout the years. It has also had other models intro- duced, including the Sting Ray.
It has been featured in tele- vision shows, and has always maintained a look that sets it apart from other vehicles.
