Sandbags Available For Residents

The City of Tampa and Hillsborough County is pro- viding sandbags for resi- dents.
The sandbags will be available at the following lo- cations:
City of Tampa
The sandbags will be available at Parks and Recre- ation facilities in preparation of the pending storm.
Sand bags will be avail- able to city residents at the following locations from 8
a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday: Himes Ave. Complex, 4501 S. Himes Ave; MacFar- lane Park, 1700 N. MacDill Ave.; and Al Barnes Park,
2902 N. 32nd St.
Tampa residents must
show ID to verify that they live within the city limits. A valid driver’s license, utility bill, or electric bill will serve as proper identification
Hillsborough County
To help residents prepare for the possibility of flooding associated with the pending storm, Hillsborough County is making sandbags available to the public at three County parks.
Beginning Thursday, Aug.
29, sandbags will be available from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily at the following locations:
Edward Medard Conser- vation Park, 6140 Turkey Creek Road, Plant City; E. G. Simmons Conservation Park, 2401 19th Ave. NW, Ruskin; and Ed Radice Park, 14720 Ed Radice Drive, Tampa.
Hillsborough County resi- dents are eligible for a maxi- mum of 10 sandbags per family.
Residents must show ID verifying they live in the County; a drivers license or utility bill will serve as proper identification.

Oversight Transportation

The newly formed Inde- pendent Oversight Commit- tee for Transportation held its first official meeting on Tuesday evening (August 27th). The 13-member com- mittee, comprised of 4 African-Americans (3 women, 1 man) elected for- mer State Rep. Sean Shaw as chairman. The 3 African- American women are the only women on the commit- tee.
The committee is in charge of supervising the transportation sales tax that voters approved last Novem- ber.
Although approved by the citizens, the tax is in the hands of the Florida Supreme Court after a suit was filed against its usage.
Atty. Shaw said, “I’d like to thank my colleagues for electing me and giving me their vote of confidence. I will make sure the tax dollars are spent in the manner that they were intended,” he said. Atty. Shaw represents Hills- borough Area Regional Tran- sit (HART) on the committee.
