Eleventh Monthly Shuffleboard Tournament Held

On Friday, November 22nd, members of the local Shuffleboard Team gath- ered at Ragan Park Com- munity Center, 1200 E. Lake Avenue, for their monthly showdown. The teams represented different communities throughout the city.
After all of the points were tallied, two first-place winners and two second- place winners claimed their gift cards.
The first-place stand- outs were Ms. Connie Bowen and Ms. Linda Cotney. The second-place bragging rights went to Ms. Estelle Acree, and Ms. Sandra Mills.
This month, a new group of ladies joined the tournament for the first time. They are the Oak Park Seniors and they will be
participating in monthly tournaments.

The competitors repre- sented the Lee Davis Sen- iors, the Ella Seniors, the Jazzy Seniors, and the Oak Park Seniors.
The Director and Trainer of the Shuffleboard Team is Steve Scott. Each month, Scott secures gift cards for the winners of the competition. This month, Micah Miller, of Health Matters Pharmacy, was on hand for the event.

Competition this month in- cluded: Carrie Rhanes, Shirley Thomas, Janice Whitehead, Irma Jack- son, Rosetta Smith, Leatrice Byrd, Nettie Green, Ruby Epps, and Quincy Jefferson.
Scott said playing shuf- fleboard gives seniors an opportunity to stay active and socialize with their peers. He invites any sen- iors who wish to learn the game to contact him.
Scott teaches Shuffle-
board on Mondays and Fri- days from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., at Ragan Park Com- munity Center, 1200 E. Lake Avenue. He also teaches the game at Cyrus Greene Community Center on Thursday, from 1 p.m. until 2:30 p.m., and he holds training classes at Williams Park and Fair Oaks Community Centers.
On Tuesdays from 11 a.m. until 12 noon, Scott teaches the game at the Lee Davis Neighborhood Serv- ice Center.

Baby Can’t Wait, Mom Gives Birth Aboard Airplane

Ms. Nereida Araujo
had planned to spend the Thanksgiving holiday in Pennsylvania. However, her daughter was impatient and arrived early.
Ms. Araujo, of Bradenton, boarded the American Airlines flight last Wednesday. She had fallen asleep when a pain in her lower back woke her. She then realized that her

water had broken and she was on the verge of giving birth. She was 38 weeks into her pregnancy.
The airplane was slated to land in Charlotte and she was hoping she would be able to make it to the hos- pital. But, by the time Ms. Araujo reached the jet bridge, little Lizyana Sky Taylor made her grand entrance into the world.
Lizyana’s mom said her middle name is Sky be- cause she wants her daugh- ter to know about her uncommon birth. Lizyana, who weighed 5 pounds and 8 ounces at birth, and her mom are doing well.
Ms. Araujo called her “a blessing.”
