WE-CARE is a community- based participatory research program that was started from a NIH P20 grant with the for- mer USF Center for Equal Health. In 2014 the program was reestablished by Dr. Kevin Sneed, Dean of the USF Taneja College of Phar- macy, along with USF public health students. WE-CARE works to bridge researchers with the community in order to achieve health equity.
Through WE-CARE, re- searchers can engage with the local community to raise awareness about their research and increase enrollment and participation in their
studies. Researchers and clini- cians can attend community conversations where panelists of community members pro- vide their perspectives on the fears, challenges and solutions to engaging and participating in research studies.
WE-CARE is partnering with 50 Hoops and REACH UP, Inc., which are two other community-based organiza- tions, for the event on Decem- ber 6th. The event will allow clinical researchers to: 1) share important aspects of their re- search; 2) actively recruit par- ticipants into their studies, and/or 3) interact with other clinical researchers; 4) interact with diverse community mem- bers.
The event on Friday will be held at the C. Blythe Andrews, Jr. Public Library, 2607 E. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd., 11a.m.–2p. m.Lunchispro- vided and admission is free.
