   A Sleeping Beauty
   hey say you learn some-
thing new every day. And, recently, I learned that, regardless of how rotten you are as a human being, some people will support you sim- ply because you both share the same religious faith.
I discovered this nugget of insight after reading a story where Tina Camp- bell, one half of the gospel group Mary Mary, admit- ted to voting for Donald Trump during the presiden- tial election because of his claim to be a Christian.
According to Campbell, since she wasn't very fond of Trump or his opponent Hillary Clinton, she based her ultimate decision on some favorable views Trump expressed about Christianity.
Never mind the fact that Trump is an insufferable bigot who sows seeds of divi- siveness while bullying the weak. As long as he professes to go to church on Sundays I guess, in her mind, he can be viewed as an alright guy.
What I'm trying to figure out, though, is what hap- pened to a person's actions speaking louder than their words? By that standard alone, Trump claiming to be Christian holds about as much merit as a man talking
about his devotion to Islam while chomping down on a pulled pork sandwich.
I mean, did she happen to miss Trump's infamous "I just grab 'em by the p---y" comment last year or the speech where he told his crit- ics to go "f--- themselves?" I'm just curious to know after which one of these episodes did it not dawn on her that Trump may not be all what he professes?
The more I think about it, I honestly don't know what's the worst thing about this story? Campbell voting for Trump solely because he said he was Christian, the idea that she actually be- lieved him or the fact that she thought that it even mat- tered?
To me, Campbell's dis- play of unconsciousness un- derscores why it's so important for people to have some form of understanding of the culture and history of the country in which they live. I'm going to give her the benefit of the doubt and say that, like many individuals, she probably didn't know that there was a time when white, Christian protestants were some of the most wicked people you could find.
These were people who,
not only used the tenets of their faith to justify slavery but who, during the early part of the 20th century, would announce the hanging of Black men during church services. Many of the indi- viduals shown smiling and laughing in photographs of public lynching were atten- dees of so-called church "pick-a-nigger" events more commonly referred to these days as "picnics."
Some of these "good" church folks even formed a clandestine Masonic order known as the Christian Knights of the Ku Klux Klan. A terroristic hate group that Trump's father, Fred Trump (a man who also considered himself a devout Christian), was identified to be a member of after being arrested at a New York Klan rally in 1927. I wonder, if Tina Campbell was aware of any of this, would she still make the same naive as- sumption that someone like Trump could truly be her ally in Christ?
It has often been said that you never know the ignorant nature of a person's thinking until he opens his mouth. It is a shame that the people we admire the most keep pro- viding a perfect example of that truth.

Everybody Knows Who Has The Last Word
 “
“The picture and article that accompanied it hit me so hard I cried.”
Four young soldiers serving their country in a na- tion far from home were ambushed by African mili- tants who had no idea of the evil they’d perpetratedin the thousandth of a second.
Many days later, our president in the midst of more political fires made a ham-fisted statement of condo- lence to the woman who wept over her husband’s cas- ket.
A comment that went viral after one of the widow’s closest comforters (who happens to be none other than one of the State of Florida’s premiere Congresswomen) picks it up and fires it back at a president who to this day, is denying it, and calling the Congresswoman a liar.
CNN, FOX News, The New York Times, and every other media monopoly picked it up and is running with it, still. Republicans are accusing Democrats of politi- cizing the president’s words. Democrats say this is one more reason why the 45th president should be “past tense.”
Meanwhile, a pregnant widow weeps, and his 2 chil- dren and unborn child will never see their earthly fa- ther again, and neither U. S. Representative Fredericka Wilson nor President Donald Trump, but God, had the last word.
To all of them who have fought and died for us, and for their loved ones who’ve suffered the ultimate living sacrifice, Thank You, and May God Forever Bless You!
hat caught my eye the other day and refused to
let it go was a photo in a morning newspaper of a woman weeping over the flag-draped casket of her dead husband. No doubt, the picture should have been on Page One, but it was buried on page four, alongside a smaller photograph of a woman who accused the President of the United States of being an insensitive liar regarding what he said (or did not say) to the dead man’s bereaved loved one.”
