Art Students Show Their Cultural Side As They Travel To New York
Juneteenth Celebration Activities Begin June 1st:
The Tampa Bay Juneteenth Coalition Presents Gospel Musical
Many people are still baffled about June- teenth! The Tampa Bay Juneteenth Coalition says, “Please join us June 1st, 7:30 p. m. for an- other Bles’d Production entitled, “The Family Tree!”
This production features an “all star” cast who brings the education about this celebra- tion full circle. The play was written by Dr. Phyllis Tucker-Wicks and is directed and produced by Dr. Wicks and her twin sister, Pastor P. Tucker-Johnson, who is the President of the Tampa Bay Juneteenth Coali- tion and serves as a state representative for the National Juneteenth Foundation.
The final date for all applications will be Friday, April 12th. Applications are on line. A parent meeting for all appli- cants will be held on Saturday, April 20th 2 P. M., at Miracle Temple C. O. G. I. C., 2001 N. Albany Ave., Tampa, FL 33607.
Juneteenth is celebrated around the world. This year, the Tampa Bay Juneteenth Coali- tion will be filled with a month-long celebra- tion of events:

Hillsborough County Arts students visited several sites in the New York City area.

These students spent their Spring Break in New York, expanding their interest in the arts.
While some Hillsborough County students chose to stay around the house, do nothing and ‘catch up’ on some sleep, 25 students with interest in some form of the arts traveled to New York with a few instruc- tors.
Mrs. “Cookie” Madeily- nann Mitchell, Art Instruc- tor, NAHS (National Art Honor Society) Sponsor, SOCA (Stu- dents of Color Association) Sponsor, and Head Coach Girls and Boys Volleyball at Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate High School, was accompanied on the trip by Mrs. Lenny C. Harvey, from Howard W. Blake High School (Ceramics and Sculpture teacher) and Jennifer Borroff, teacher at Nature’s Classroom.
“I had 15 students from Brooks DeBartolo, 1 student from Sun Lake High and 9 stu- dents from Blake High School. This was an art focused trip and these are the places we vis- ited: Metropolitan Museum of
Art, Brooklyn Museum, Guggenheim, 911 Memorial and Museum (NY), 911 Memo- rial (NJ), Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Broadway (My Fair Lady), Time Square, Cen- tral Park, Rockefeller Building, Empire State Building, and St. Peter’s Cathedral,” Mrs. Mitchell said.
