Changes At The Sentinel:
Tuesday And Friday Papers To Merge To Make Larger Paper
Beginning in mid Janu- ary 2019, after listening to opinions of the community, we have decided to return to the once-a-week publication.
It should also be noted that the electronic genera- tion has played a role in this decision providing real time news. However, even the electronic news fails to meet the news of our community.
The newly combined publication will be printed on Wednesday of each week. We will offer new front page designs during this change as well.
We Are Offering More Positive News
• We will focus more on local news, we will offer more coverage of youth events, ranging from little league to high school, and community events. We will also offer 3 pages of entertainment and 3 pages of sports.
• We will have an app for quick access to the digital, color newspaper if you want instant ac- cess.
• We will focus on our adult readers as well as the up and coming gen- erations. We feel it is im- portant to praise, promote and help our youth stay on the right track. We will continue to publish the honor roll after each grading pe- riod and we encourage parents to take advan- tage of putting their chil- dren in a positive spotlight.
• We will publish crime articles as usual, but we will also post them on our webpage in a timely manner.
As a result of these changes, the price of the Sentinel will increase to $1. The price increase is necessary to continue printing.
We invite you to con- tinue to support your newspaper and to con- tinue to share your news with us.
Thank You Ms. Kay Andrews, Publisher, C. Blythe Andrews, III President
Tampa Bay Area Dental Association To Honor Dr. William F. Marsh
BY GWEN HAYES Sentinel Editor
The Tampa Bay Area Dental Association (TBADA) will honor Dr. William F. Marsh during its 67th An- niversary Banquet, ‘A Night In Tropical Paradise.’ The event will be held on Satur- day, March 2, 2019, at the Carrollwood Country Club, 13903 Clubhouse Drive, Tampa, 33618, 6-11 p. m. The event calls for festive formal attire.
This event will mark the launch of the Dr. William F. Marsh Scholarship Pro- gram. Dr. Marsh is being honored for his dedication and commitment to preserv- ing the mission and legacy of the TBADA.
A native of Montgomery, AL, Dr. Marsh has been a resident of Tampa for 38 years. His wife is Joyce Marsh, and he is the father of 2 adult children, and a grandson.
Dr. Marsh graduated from dental school in 1970 and served as a dental officer for 2 years before entering his specialty training in 1972.
In 1974, he began work- ing as a public health dentist in Lakeland; and in 1975 he opened his private orthodon- tic practice in Tampa. He maintained both careers for 27 years, but now gives his full attention to Marsh Or- thodontics.
Dr. Marsh’s education background includes: Certifi- cate of Proficiency in Ortho- dontics, Howard University; Doctorate of Dental Surgery,

School of Dentistry, Meharry Medical College; Bachelor of Science degree, Morehouse College; and as the class vale- dictorian, he earned his high school diploma from G. W. Carver High School in Mont- gomery.
The Tampa Bay Area Dental Association (TBADA) is a component organization of the Sunshine State Dental Association, and its parent organization, the National Dental Association.
TBADA serves five sepa- rate counties: Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco, Manatee, and Polk.
The mission of TBADA is to promote the knowledge of the art and science of den- tistry by supporting those measures which promote the elevation of the standard of health education, provide community activities which elevate the awareness of den- tistry to the lay person, for instance the ‘Give Kids A Smile Day,’ and provide cur- rent topics in dentistry and correlated fields for obtain- ing continuing educational credits.
During the period of seg- regation in the United States, African American dentists were not allowed to join the major dental associations. This was most apparent on the local level, and Tampa was not an exception.
In 1952, Dr. Carl H. Norton spearheaded a drive to unite the Black dentists in the Tampa Bay area. Dr. Carl Norton, along with Doctors William O. Bunch, Martin Silas, David E. Smith, Prince A. Ervin, Leroy Ervin, and James L. Green, formed the Technique Dental Study Club. The purpose of the or- ganization was to promote camaraderie among its mem- bers, to provide service to the community and to provide a forum for the dissemination of new dental information to its members.
The organization has prospered and grown through the years. The mem- bership currently includes over 25 dentists and special- ists from Tampa, Lakeland, Clearwater, and St. Peters- burg. The name has been changed to The Tampa Bay Area Dental Association and is a recognized component of the Florida Medical, Dental and Pharmaceutical Associa- tion and the National Dental Association. Dr. Lorraine Tomlinson is President of TBADA.
