Cong. Castor Announces Additional $3M CARES Act Emergency Aid To Assist Tampa Families
 U. S. Rep. Kathy Castor (FL14) announced Wednesday (Sept. 9th) that the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development awarded an additional $3,075,937 million in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding to the City of Tampa to bolster local coronavirus re- lief efforts.
The funding was authorized by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Eco- nomic Security (CARES) Act, and fol- lows $1,894,705 in CDBG funding that Castor announced on April 2. The CARES Act is a $2 trillion coronavirus relief package for states and local communities passed by Congress and signed into law on March 27, 2020.
“Months into the COVID-19 pan- demic, I am continuing to work hand- in-hand with Mayor Castor to aid
who are facing economic uncertainty. We are all in this fight together, and I’m committed to bringing every re- source possible,” said Rep. Kathy Castor.
"We could not be more excited to receive this federal funding. This grant provides a critical component to realizing our affordable housing needs and goals. Thank you to Con- gresswoman Castor for always being a champion for the City of Tampa and our community. Because of grants like these more residents will be able to continue to call our great city home,” said Tampa Mayor Jane Castor.
Community Development Block Grants support community develop- ment activities to build stronger and more resilient communities. Activi- ties may address needs such as infra-
structure, economic development projects, public facilities installation, community centers, housing rehabil- itation, homeowner assistance, and more. Federal support encourages systematic and sustained action by state and local governments.
