Three people believed to be responsible for a string of 25 burglaries in the South Tampa area were arrested Wednesday, August 17th.
Authorities said two of the suspects were arrested in Miami, and the other was ar- rested in Manatee County.
According to the Tampa Police Department, Leyanet Morales-Torres, 24, Ale- jandro Blanco-Poza, 26, and Diego Perera, 25, were taken into custody and are facing multiple charges.
Police said the three sus- pects are believed to be re- sponsible for dating back to
late March, 2016. In most of the burglaries, expensive jew- elry was taken, along with other items of value. It was the use of a stolen credit card that provided police with the lead they needed to identify the suspects.
Morales-Torres and Blanco-Poza were in posses- sion of numerous pieces of jewelry when they were ar- rested in Miami. Perera was identified from home surveil- lance video taken from two South Tampa homes.
Additional charges are likely as the investigation con- tinues.
Three teenagers were ar- rested Thursday after a grocery store was robbed at gunpoint. Two of the teenagers were charged with the robbery and a drug charge landed the third in jail.
According to the Hillsbor- ough County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 4:45 p.m., two teenagers entered the Sun And Farm Grocery, 15005 Balm Road, in Wimauma. One of the men pointed a handgun at the cashier and the other took money from the cash register.
The teenagers then fled the store in a westbound direction. Deputies responded to the scene and obtained descriptions of the men from witnesses. The inves- tigation led them to the home in the 14000 block of Highway 672.
After talking to the home- owner, police were given per- mission to search the home. Police located Jason Alceus,
16, of Ruskin, and 17-year-old Javon Powell, of Tampa, in- side the home.
Deputies said the two fit the description of the teenagers who had committed the armed rob- bery earlier.
The teenagers were not wearing the same clothing as de- scribed in the robbery, but police located clothing matching those in the video of the robbery inside one of the rooms. They also lo- cated the firearm used and money reportedly taken during the robbery.
Police charged Alceus with robbery with a firearm and pos- session of cannabis. Powell was charged with robbery with a firearm.
