MR. RONALD J. BOSTON
A Memorial Service for Mr. Ronald J. Boston, who departed this life, on Wednesday, August 17, 2016, suddenly, will be held on Tuesday, August 23, 2016, at 5:30 p.m.atNewMt.ZionM.B. Church, 2511 E. Columbus Dr., Tampa (33605). Dr. Charles Kennedy will officiate.
Mr. Boston was born on Jan- uary 5, 1946 in St. Petersburg, Florida to teenaged parents, Frank Boston and Arlene Boyd.
Nine months later he became the adopted son of his paternal grandmother, Carrie Boston, who with the loving support of Isaac Wright (Granddaddy Bo) and Louise Carethers and John Carethers (Auntie Louise and Uncle John), raised him to be a diligent, confident, accomplished young man.
Ron was educated in the pub- lic schools of Pinellas County, graduating from Gibbs High School in 1964. What he de- scribed as a “highly competitive academic environment” prepared him for the academic rigor, social limitations, and race based pres- sure that “came with the terri- tory” of a few Black students outnumbered by thousands of white students when he entered college.
Scholarships and part-time jobs with Winn Dixie, the juvenile court in Hillsborough County and the city of St. Petersburg financed his college education at St. Peters- burg Jr. College, A. A., 1966, and the University of South Florida, B. A. 1968.
At U. S. F., the fifty or so, Black students assembled to en- courage each other. In that group was his future bride, Phan Opeyi, a Tampa girl. They shared lunch in the University Center and cele- brated term breaks with “lush budget productions” (beach par- ties at Ft Desoto Beach) coordi- nated by Ron.
Upon graduation, Ron moved to Atlanta to work for the Com- municable Disease Center (CDC).
In September 1969 he became a federal drug enforcement agent, working undercover. On Decem-
The family of Elder Elliott McBride, Jr. is putting the final touches on his funeral arrangements. He died last Tues- day, August 16, 2016, after a brief illness and hospital stay. He was 74 years old.
As Rev. Dr. Linda Reese, Pastor of Pilgrims Rest M. B. Church, recuperates during a health sabbatical, she had placed Elder McBride, an Assistant Pastor at the church, as overseer during her absence.
“He had missed church the past 3 weeks, but we had no idea he wouldn’t be back,” Pastor Reese stated. “He would have to be hospitalized from time-to- time for 2-3 days, but would come back OK,” she explained.
According to Mrs. McBride, he had been hospital- ized about 2 weeks, and passed away after being home for 4 days.
According to family mem- bers, Elder McBride traveled

the country for many years as a long distance truck driver for J. B. Hunt, Florida Steel and Al- bertson’s Corporation. He also worked for the City of Tampa Sanitation Dept.
Elder McBride was or- dained in the mid 1970s by the Alpha and Omega Ministries. He also served as a pastor in Sanford and a church planter.
He served at Cathedral of Faith under the tutelage of
Apostle James H. Howell.
For the last 30 years, he has served faithfully as the Assistant Pastor at Pilgrims Rest.
He had a passion for young people and found his love in leading young men to excel in the art of parenting and father- hood.
He will long be remembered for his favorite saying, “Holy Spirit, you’re welcome in this place.’ He also had several fa- vorite songs.
His survivors include his wife of more than 50 years, Mrs. Cora Conyers McBride; step- mother, Verdell McBride; 8 children; grand and great-grand- children.
Funeral arrangements have been planned for Saturday, Au- gust 27, 2016 at 11 a. m. at Pil- grims Rest, with Apostle Howell in charge.
ber 27, 1969, Ron and Phan were married, and relocated to Philadelphia, PA for his first as- signment in his words “fighting crime, dodging death and keeping the streets safe.”
Desiring to be closer to his aging grandparents, the DEA brought the couple and their number one daughter, Rhonda Phan, to Tampa. Four more daughters were born, Regina (de- ceased), Rori, Raena and Randi, who brought both joy and chal- lenges to a wonderful husband and father outnumbered by so many females.
Subsequently, he sold insur- ance and securities for Prudential Insurance and as an independent agency owner. He was also a proj- ect manager, property renovator and owner of Phantasy Carpets.
Tax preparation was his avoca- tion: family, friends and business associates derived the benefit of his expertise and ability to achieve the best results for his people.
After forty years of marriage, “...Father” and “Gigi Grandma,” experienced the delightful joy of grandparenting, which completed their love relationship.
Ron was a trusted and reliable friend, a giving and engaging fam- ily member, a Dad who loved his daughters and whose daughters loved him more. Ron possessed a keen analytical mind that prompted others to dig deeper.
Most of all he was endowed with a wry, quick, always lovingly wicked sense of humor, that kept everyone laughing especially his wife, through the best and worst of times.
