Saints Open To Bringing Back Dez Bryant For 2019
DEZ BRYANT
The whirlwind week that was supposed to mark Dez Bryant's triumphant return to football ended in heart- break.
Bryant suffered a torn Achilles during his second practice with the Saints, and was placed on injured re- serve.
Bryant, who is set to un- dergo surgery soon, faces a 6- 9 month recovery -- one that complicates his free-agent prospects for 2019.
The Saints would be open to Bryant coming back, though this is contingent upon the receiver being healthy.
"He'll have a full recovery and I know he still plans on playing," Saints coach Sean Payton told NFL Network's Kimberly Jones on Sun- day.
Veteran wide receiver Brandon Marshall, whose workout earlier this week also impressed the team, is a possible short-term option to replace Bryant. However, no determination has been made at this time. New Or- leans did promote Keith Kirkwood from the practice squad Saturday.
The Saints liked Bryant, though they knew he wasn't in game shape and needed to lose a few pounds -- perhaps that contributed to the sea- son-ending injury. Bryant's injury ruined a debut that had been months in the mak- ing.
Bryant turned down a $7 million-per-season offer from the Ravens and a nice offer from the Browns before signing with the Saints.
In addition, Bryant re- ceived interest from the Red- skins, Cardinals and Bills. The Seahawks and Packers also inquired about the vet- eran receiver early on in the process.

  Punishment For Saints
WR Michael Thomas
Last weekend the New Or- leans Saints used an impres- sive offensive display to dethrone the Los Angeles Rams as the NFL’s best team. Of course, the actual rankings are suspect, but the Saints handed the Rams their first loss of the season in stunning fashion.
Quarterback Drew Brees has put together an MVP caliber season. New Or- leans has arguably the best offensive weapons in the NFL and wide receiver Michael Thomas is proving to be one of the NFL’s best receivers.
In Sunday’s game against Los Angeles, Thomas burned Rams corner Mar- cus Peters for a 72-yard

touchdown. During his cele- bration, Thomas reached under the goalpost to remove acellphone–alaNewOr- leans great Joe Horn.
Thomas was flagged on the play and just received a hefty $30,000 fine.
Retired NBA Star Matt Barnes Awarded Sole Physical And Legal Custody Of Twin Sons
MATT BARNES AND GLORIA GOVAN
Weeks after his ex-wife was arrested for alleged child endangerment, Matt Barnes has been awarded sole physical and legal cus- tody of their 10-year-old twin sons.
The retired NBA star, 38, was granted custody of his children, Carter and Isaiah, on Thursday following a court hearing in Los Angeles which also reported that Barnes obtained an 18-month re- straining order protecting him against ex Gloria Govan.
Under the order, Govan is not barred from seeing her sons.
The judge ordered Govan
to complete 26 sessions of anger management and 10 parenting classes.
The former Los Angeles Lakers star celebrated the custody news on Instagram, sharing a photo of himself with his legal team. “The DREAM TEAM!” Barnes wrote, adding, “Can’t thank you guys enough #GodIs- Good.”
On Aug. 31, Govan, who previously starred on VH1’s Basketball Wives, was ar- rested and charged with felony child endangerment after she and Barnes were involved in an altercation at their sons’ school, according to multiple reports.
