City Of Tampa Black History Committee Announces Date For Black History Program

Members of the City of Tampa Black History Commit- tee (COTBHC) are encourag- ing residents to “save the date” for the 2018 Black History Month Celebration.
The committee is excited about its 30th Annual Celebra-
tion on Friday, February 2, 2018. As usual, the celebration willbeat11a.m.attheTampa Convention Center, 333 S. Franklin St., Downtown. Ce- leste Gibbons-Peoples is President of the Committee and retired City employee, Bobby L. Bowden is the founder.
In addition to saving the date, Bettye Greene John-
son, retired, COTBHC Spon- sorship Chair, is urging those who are interested in sponsor- ship to visit the website, cotbhc.org, for additional in- formation.
“Please know that without your support and donations, we could not award scholar- ships and assist young people as they seek higher education”, Mrs. Johnson said.
Reward Offering For Information On Missing Teen
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Sarasota Police Department are offering a reward of $6,000 for information lead- ing to the recovery of 14-year- old Jabez Spann.
Sarasota Police are con- tinuing their search for the 14-year-old who has been missing since Labor Day. He was last seen in the 1500 block of 23rd Street, in Sara- sota.
Spann is described as being 5’9” and weighs 120 pounds. He has black hair, brown eyes, and was last seen wearing a turquoise shirt.
A Missing Child Alert was issued by the Florida Depart- ment of Law Enforcement on September 18th.

National Night Out To Unite Residents And Police
On Tuesday, October 3rd, the Tampa Police Department will host its Annual Night Out Against Crime event. It will take place at several locations throughout the city.
The locations are: Bryan Glazer Family JCC, 522 North Howard Avenue; the Gwen Miller Community Center, 6410 N. 32nd Street; the Benito Park, 10065 Cross Creek Boulvard; and IKEA, 1103 N. 22nd Street.
The Police Department is inviting members of the community to come out for “Tampa Night Out.” This yearly celebration will begin at 5:30 p.m., at each location and end at 8 p.m.
According to police, crime has dropped 57.1% over the past 10 years. The credit the decrease to an increase in collaboration be- tween the citizens and law enforcement.
“Tampa Night Out” is designed to bring the citizens and police together in a festive environment to celebrate the successes, while promoting the ongoing need for law enforcement support and community building, a spokeswoman for the Tampa Police De- partment said.
The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided at all four locations, courtesy of Rise Tampa, Our Police Foundation.
