Candidates Forum Held In Progress Village
Public Library To Celebrate Its 3rd Anniversary
   The Progress Village Com- munity was host to a Candi- dates’ Forum on Saturday, July
28th at Victory @ St. James A. M. E. Church. Several persons attended the 10 a. m. forum.
On Saturday, August 11th, members of the community will gather for the Third An- niversary Observance of the Re-Opening of Saunders, Sr., Public Library. The observa- tion will take place from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m., in the Ada T. Payne Community Rooms A&B.
Dr. Canter Brown, Jr.,
will serve as the keynote speaker. Dr. Brown will share his memories of work- ing with the late Mr. Robert W. Saunders, Sr., and oth- ers from the community.
A native of Fort Meade, Florida, Dr. Brown gradu- ated from Florida State Uni- versity. He has taught at Florida A & M University, and has worked at Fort Valley State University.
An award-winning author and Historian, Dr. Brown
several awards and commen- dations.
About The Library
Donated by the Italian American Club, the Ybor City Branch Library came into ex- istence in 1933. It was a storefront facility, located at 1729 E. Broadway.
Thirty-six years later, a new building was constructed at 1505 N. Nebraska Avenue. It was dedicated in January 1969.
On November 5, 2003, the Hillsborough County Board of County Commis- sioners voted to rename the Ybor City Branch Library to honor Robert W. Saun- ders, Sr., Civil Rights ac- tivist and former NAACP Field Director. A bronze bust of Mr. Saunders by artist Brian R. Owens is on dis- play in the lobby.

DR. CANTER BROWN, JR. ... Guest Speaker
has written several books on the subject of Florida and the southern United States. Some of the titles of his work include: Florida’s Peace River Frontier; Florida’s Black Pub- lic Officials, 1867-1924; and Fort Meade, 1849-1900.
He is also the recipient of
       State Senator Darryl Rou- son reminded everyone about the amendments that will be on the ballot for 2018 and the importance of voting.
Layvonne Culbreath wel- comed everyone to the forum.
The 2018 graduates are: Tammie Anderson, Doris Bonaparte, Patrick Darden, Linda Hamilton, Shantinike Hansell and Gena Washington. Joining them are: Dr. Ramona Burrowes.

Tampa Bay Patient Care Services 2018 Graduation
Tampa Bay Patient Care Services held its 2018 gradu- ation ceremony on June 16th. The ceremony was held at the Temple Terrace Li- brary. Their motto was: “The Sky Is The Limit!”
