   Family Raising Funds To Bury Child

Mom Who Threw Daughter In River Held Without Bond
On Friday morning, Hillsborough Circuit Judge Catherine Catlin ordered Ms. Shakayla Denson be held in the Hillsborough County jail without bail. Ms. Denson is accused of wading out into the Hills- borough River on Thursday and throwing her only child, 4-year-old daughter into the water. The child, identified as Je’hyrah Daniels, died.
Ms. Denson, who wore an anti-suicide vest, did not speak. She is charged with first-degree murder, aggra- vated child abuse, and grand theft auto.
At approximately 4 p.m., Thursday, Tampa Police re- sponded to the Hillsborough River near Rome Avenue and N. Aileen Street in ref- erence to a child being thrown into the Hillsbor- ough River. The Tampa Po- lice Department’s Dive Team responded and dis- covered the child’s uncon- scious body submerged about 75 feet off shore. She was rushed to a local hospi- tal, where she was pro- nounced dead at 4:49 p.m.
Police quickly located
Ms. Shakayla Denson,
26, walking nearby. She was taken into custody and it was determined that she was the mother of the child, identified as Je’hyrah Daniels.
Police also determined that Ms. Denson was a suspect in the theft of a Nis- san Altima from Jordan Auto Repair, 5604 N. 40th Street. The stolen vehicle was located on Rome Av- enue, just north of Aileen Street.

Child Protection Investigation
As a result of the Tampa Police Department investi- gation into Shakayla Den- son, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office initi- ated an internal review of their records as it pertains to her and her daughter. The

The report stated, “On June 19th, 2018, HCSO Child Protection Investiga- tion Division conducted an inadequate supervision in- vestigation into Shakayla Denson, and Je'Hyrah Daniels, her daughter. The matter was closed on July 31 due to no indicators of mal- treatment, abuse or neglect. In light of this incident, we conducted an additional re- view of the case and concur with the original findings.
