Patrick Mahomes Reflects On LIV Turnaround By Following Dad’s Advice: ‘It’s All About The Next Pitch’
Patrick Mahomes, right, and as a child with his father, Patrick Mahomes, inset.
Pat Mahomes the Min- nesota Twins pitcher didn’t have an Andy Reid in his life when he made the Twins rotation in 1992. That April was great. Ma- homes, in his third start, struck out Rickey Henderson and Jose Canseco twice each, and he beat Oakland 8-4.
But then, in May, he got knocked around at Fenway Park, walked six against Cleve- land, and got lit up by the Yan- kees. “I learned the hard way,” Pat Mahomes recalled Satur- day. “I was this hotshot prospect who started strong and then got hit around, and I’d linger on those bad games. I’d take the bad game into my next start. I found out that’s never good.”
His son Patrick was born in 1995, and started going to the ballpark when his dad was a key guy in the Mets bullpen in 1999. Take-your-son-to-work days lasted for 10 years, and they weren’t all glory days, like Alex Rodriguez giving 6-year-old Patrick batting tips in the cage in Texas, then Patrick follow- ing Rodriguez to shortstop and taking grounders there. In 2008, when Pat Mahomes was taking one last shot at the bigs by playing Independent baseball with the Sioux Falls (S.D.) Canaries, his son experi- enced some bus rides too—such as the nine-hour overnight trip from Dallas to El Paso.
“What was your big lesson for Patrick?” I asked the elder Mahomes. “What’d you want him to soak in back then?”
“I wanted him to see the workyouhadtoputintobea pro,” Pat Mahomes said. “He saw that in clubhouses for years.”
There was something else, something that came in handy in Super Bowl 54.
Pat Mahomes said: “I’d tell Patrick, ‘It’s always about the next play. It’s always about the next pitch.’ Forget what you’ve done. What are you gonna do next?”
Former Cowboy Michael Irvin
Jason Pierre-Paul Posts Cryptic Message On Instagram
The Tampa Bay Bucca- neers had a few bright spots this past season, and arguably none stood out more than their shutdown rushing de- fense. Allowing a mere 73.8 yards per game, the Bucs de- fense allowed 13.1 yards less than the next closest team, the New York Jets (86.9 ypg) and stifled running backs on op- posing teams.
10-year veteran Jason Pierre-Paul has spent the past two seasons with the Buccaneers, totaling 21 sacks, 85 tackles, and three forced fumbles. Most importantly, JPP brings the intangible win- ning mentality and veteran leadership, plus a Super Bowl ring.
Expiring contracts follow- ing the 2019 season for the Buccaneers are plentiful, and Pierre-Paul’s name is in- cluded on that list. Specula- tion is swirling about what the Buccaneers will do with Pierre-Paul and fellow de- fensive standout, Ndamukung Suh, whom are both unrestricted free agents. Coach Bruce Arians has stated that he wants to keep the defense together, as they seemingly started to gel in the latter part of the season

very well.
$90 million is the total
amount in the Buccaneers’ cap space bank, however, with the amount of free agents on their roster, that well may dry up quicker than the organiza- tion would like. Jameis Winston and Shaq Barrett are also free agents, mean the team could lose the NFL sack leader and not have a starting quarterback on the roster. Fans have been asking, “Is the team able to re-sign both Suh and Pierre-Paul?” It’s en- tirely possible, but with so many gaps that must be ad- dressed, it’s hard to fathom that all the stars align and the Buccaneers can accomplish everything.
Pierre-Paul posted on this Instagram, with a caption that simply read “All I did was try my best. 90PC.”
     Claims 'Significant People' Are
Discussing Trading Dak
Prescott To Sign Tom Brady
As near as I can tell, my guy Colin Cowherd started this. But now my guy Michael Irvin is talking about it, too, and the gravitas of the idea of Dallas Cowboys movement involving QB Dak Prescott and QB Tom Brady is increasing.
Speaking on topic Friday on WEEI’s “Dale & Keefe,” NFL Network’s Irvin, - a leg- endary and plugged-in former Cowboy - shared a Super Bowl Week conversation that he termed "shocking'' that he had with “very significant people.”
From Irvin: “I am telling you right now, at the Super Bowl in Miami, some very sig- nificant people that I had con- versations (with were) leaning in that same direction. It was shocking. I had a vodka cran-

berry in my hand and when theysaidittomeIputthe drink down and said, ‘Let’s talk a little bit more about this.’
"I promise you, I had a conversation with people, I can’t tell you who, about that same scenario going down.”
The idea: The Cowboys could use the franchise tag on Prescott, trade him after- ward and then sign Tom Brady.
